Some overseas news as Jets prospect Viktor Klingsell, who they drafted in the 5th round of the 2025 NHL Draft, has signed a two-year contract with Skellefteå AIK of the SHL the hockey club reported.
Klingsell was very noticeable when the team assembled in Winnipeg following the draft for Development Camp. While not the biggest player (5’10) his talent was very evident.

He went back to Sweden after camp and played for a few different clubs including getting into 12 SHL games with Skellefteå AIK scoring once, eight games in the second tier HockeyAllsvenskan on loan with Östersunds IK where he had one goal and six assists and 25 games with Skellefteå AIK U20 scoring 17 times along with 25 assists.
In the first year of the agreement he will be loaned to Kalmar in the HockeyAllsvenskan. In the team release they quote Klingsell when it comes to next season’s start with Kalmar as saying*:
“I think it’s a great experience. I’ve already gotten a feel for the league and getting senior experience is A big plus. It’s a fast-paced and fun hockey which suits my style of play. I know where the league is at the level and think it will be a perfect level for to be both challenged and developed on.”
And Skellefteå AIK GM Erik Forssell comments* on the contract:
“We are happy to have Viktor has been finalized for the next two years. First year on his contract he will be loaned out to HockeyAllsvenskan Kalmar. Viktor has a huge pile of skill level and this loan will be a perfect step for him to continue to develop and adapt their game in good senior hockey.”
For those curious or potentially concerned this is not an unexpected move. We will likely next see the Swedish forward at the end of June for Development Camp.
