Winnipeg Jets prospect Daniel Torgersson loaned to AIK Hockey from Frölunda HC

Last year was tough for Jets 2020 2nd rounder Daniel Torgersson who suffered a knee injury which cost him most of the season (he played 10 games for Vastra Frolunda Jr. in the Swedish junior league and then two games for Frolunda HC) before he had surgery in October of 2020. He signed a two-year deal with Frolunda back in January of 2021.

According to a Press Release from AIK Hockey the left shooting winger from Hönö, Sweden will be living in Stockholm after he was loaned to them by Frolunda.  It reads in part:

Daniel is a big and powerful player with good speed on the skates. He is incredibly good at creating space for his teammates with his size and difficult to take the puck away from. Daniel had a tough season last year where an injury put an end to games, but it will be very fun to be part of Daniel’s continued journey and development as a player, says sports director Christoffer Malm.

Here is what Frolunda said in their Press Release:

Archipelago-educated Daniel Torgersson had most of last season destroyed due to injury, but was still moved up in Frölunda’s A squad this spring.
With just under two weeks left until the SHL premiere, the 19-year-old is loaned out to AIK.

“The idea is that he will stay there all season”, explains Frölunda’s sports director Fredrik Sjöström: “After his injury he needs a lot of playing time and we feel that we can not offer it right now. This is a good solution that gives him a chance to develop and record a future JVM team “.

Should be a good opportunity for the 19-year old prospect to get some big minutes in the HockeyAllsvenskan, which is the second tier of hockey in Sweden. Fellow Swede and Jets prospect David Gustafsson spent time in HockeyAllsvenskan with his hometown Tingsryd last September to December after the 2019-20 season NHL/AHL season and ahead of the 2020-21 season here in North America.

The HockeyAllsvenskan regular season will get underway at the end of this month.
