Winnipeg Jets prospect Alfons Freij (2024 2nd) is in Manitoba

The 2nd rounder is in Winnipeg.

The first SHL season for Jets prospect Alfons Freij (2024 2nd) came to an end on Saturday night as his Timrå IK squad missed the playoffs. The left-shot defenceman was held without a point in his first 23 games before picking up assists in back-to-back contests in early December.

He then left for Minnesota to compete in the World Junior Championship. In seven games with the Tre Kronor squad, he recorded seven assists. He and fellow Winnipeg prospect Sascha Boumedienne (2025 1st) helped Sweden win gold ending a 14 year drought, and he showed off his personality on a few occasions (here, here and here).

Returning to Sweden, he went scoreless for seven games before turning it on in his final ten SHL contests, tallying six goals and three assists.

With  his SHL season done and with the AHL season entering its final stretch in mid-March, there will be an opportunity for the prospect to get into 15 or 16 of the remaining regular-season games remaining.
