Winnipeg Jets Practice Report

A report of the Jets skate MTS Centre.

Nikolaj Ehlers at practice

The Jets were back on the ice today following a season/home opener win at the MTS Centre last night.  They practiced in Winnipeg before jumping on a plane to head a few hours south to get ready for the game against Minnesota on Saturday.

The team is having to re-configure their lines as they get used to the reality of life without Bryan Little who we learned today will be out indefinitely.

PP1: Byfuglien-Ehlers, Stafford-Scheifele-Wheeler
PP2: Enstrom/Myers-Perreault, Laine-Armia-Connor. Armia,Stafford net-front guys

Patrik Laine:  How did he sleep after last night’s game?  Has he replayed the moment in his head?  Anything surprised him from his first game in Winnipeg?  Did he hear from any former teammates or coaches?  What did his family have to say last night?

Kyle Connor:  On his assist on Laine’s goal.  On the comeback win for the Jets.  Being able to do that (unlike last season).  How does it feel the next day after his first NHL game?  Anything he has reflected on?

Drew Stafford:  Can they use the emotion from last night’s game in tomorrow’s game?  How much do they know about the Wild?

Tyler Myers:  Can they take something from the pre-season game against the Wild into tomorrow’s contest?  What does the youthful exuberance do for a team?  Was last night’s game one the team can keep in “their back pocket”?

Nikolaj Ehlers:  His thoughts on the home opener.  Was that 3rd period team the ones fan can expect?  On Laine scoring his first NHL goal.

Shawn Matthias:  His first NHL regular season game with the Jets.  Getting his first goal of the season.  What the 3rd period showed about Winnipeg.

Coach audio:

Paul Maurice:  Bryan Little’s status.  Will they call up a forward from the Moose?  Changing up the look of the power play.  Using Wheeler at centre on the 4th line, did that get him going?  Where do they miss Bryan Little most when he is out of the lineup?  How does he think Morrissey handled the responsibility of playing with Byfuglien?  Where does Burmistrov fit into this team?  What does he bring to the team (how does he fill the hole left by Little)?  On Wheeler’s first regular season game wearing the ‘C’.  What kind of tool is he to help bring the young guys along for him as a coach?  How he sees tomorrow’s contest against the Wild?  Will Little’s injury require surgery?  What is he hoping to see from Wheeler/Scheifele/Laine?
