The Jets held an optional today at Bell MTS Place following their 4-3 win over the Rangers last night as they kicked off the homestand on the right skate.  The win put Winnipeg into a tie with San Jose for most points in the Western Conference and has them four points up on Nashville (with two games in hand) in the Central Division.

Practice News:

As per Jamie Thomas of Jets TV these players hit the ice for today’s optional “Brossoit, Morrow, Morrissey, Trouba, Laine, Appleton, Lemieux, Petan and Roslovic on the ice.”

Coach Maurice:  Update on Nikolaj Ehlers.  The challenges presented by the Avalanche.  On Mark Scheifele hitting 30 goals and what differentiates him from some of the other young centres around the NHL.  What did the post-season run do for Scheifele?  Reflecting on Scheifele coming into the league.  On Scheifele not being rushed into the NHL by the Jets.  Did Joe Morrow play better than normal last night?  Dmitry Kulikov coming in.  On the veteran D stepping up.  On players going down to lower levels to learn more about the game.  Is there still a higher ceiling for Scheifele?

Health Update:

Coach Maurice began his presser with an update on Nikolaj Ehlers “He didn’t have a setback but he just had an appointment yesterday and we’re looking at another week or two, at least.  So, he was getting close to the end of the window, wasn’t feeling a whole lot better, and then we had it checked again.  So it’s going to be longer than we thought.”  When asked about the calendar and whether it would be the last week of February the Jets bench boss indicated “ya, that’s right.”.  When asked if that date was for practice or playing he added “The window is one to three weeks before he can play.”
