Normally this isn’t a significant exercise as it is usually just a few players making changes but ahead of the 2021-22 season there will be nine new numbers for the Winnipeg Jets.
Three existing players made changes including:
Pierre-Luc Dubois switched from 13 to 80.
Mikhail Berdin from 60 to 30
Nate Beaulieu from 88 to 28.
I wonder if Pierre-Luc Dubois chose number 80 to honour his former Columbus teammate Matiss Kivlenieks who tragically died last month (Update: The Jets confirmed this was the reason). Mikhail Berdin snagged Laurent Brossoit’s old number and Nate Beaulieu likely changed because of newest Jets Dman Nate Schmidt traditionally wears 88.
The new faces will be rocking:
Brendan Dillon number 5
Nate Schmidt number 88
Riley Nash number 20
Austin Poganski number 22
Mikey Eyssimont number 23
Luke Johnson number 47
As we usually do when players take on new numbers we look at which players wore it previously in Jets history:
#5 – Luca Sbisa (2020), Dmitry Kulikov (2018-2019) & Mark Stuart (2011-2017)
#20 – Cody Eakin (2020), Lee Stempniak (2015) & Antti Miettinen (2012-2013)
#22 – Mason Appleton (2021), Mark Letestu (2020), Par Lindholm (2019) & Chris Thorburn (2012-2017)
#23 – Trevor Lewis (2021), Carl Dahlstrom (2020), Jay Harrison (2015), Alexei Ponikarovsky (2013) & Kenndal McArdle (2012)
#28 – Jack Roslovic (2019-2020) & Patrice Cormier (2012-2016)
#30 – Laurent Brossoit (2019-2021) & Connor Hellebuyck (2016)
#47 – Brian Strait (2017)
#80 – Michael Spacek (2020) & Nik Antropov (2010-2013)
