post-game recap

Winnipeg Jets overcome slow start to roll over the Ottawa Senators 4-2 winning third straight

Recap of the game.

After a slow start to this game and some penalty kill malaise the Jets got rolling in the second half of the middle frame and then quick strike goals in the 3rd propelled them to a 4-2 win over the Senators. It was their third straight victory and fifth win in six games. They improve to 26-10-1 on the season as they leapfrog back into sole possession of top spot in the NHL.

Notable:

Winnipeg was losing the special teams battle to Ottawa for the first half of this game giving up two power play goals which were the first for the Sens in some time.

With Winnipeg down 2-0 the Sens had a chance to make it 3-0 but Connor Hellebuyck made a big save on the second power play of a Vilardi double-minor to keep it within two. At the time we said if the Jets can come back in this game remember that save.

Then the home team started to play. We saw Mark Scheifele make a slick pass to himself as he first found himself and then Kyle Connor. That was Connor’s 22nd goal of the season.

Mark Scheifele with a nifty backhand tied the game. That was his 22nd goal of the season. He is on pace for 49 goals this season. He had 25 in 74 last year so he’s almost matched that total.

Multipoint Game:

Nikolaj Ehlers 1G 2A
Mark Scheifele 1G 1A
Kyle Connor 1G 1A
