Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | August 20, 2026

A daily roundup of Jets, Moose coverage and all the pro hockey news that matters in Manitoba and beyond.

Note: Perhaps you have a Jets or Moose related question. If you do Mike McIntyre and Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Free Press are accepting questions today for this month’s mailbag. Please send them a DM via social media to submit one to them.

Note II: The curious case of Logan Stanley continues to persist as the defenceman remains without a contract with less than a month until training camp. At one point last season the rumour was he was looking for a 5 x 5 deal. It will be very interesting to see how it plays out.

Note III: Another former Jet who is still looking for an NHL deal is Patrik Laine after being cut loose by the Habs after two seasons in Montreal including an injury plagued last season which saw him limited to just five games. There was even talk that he’d have to sign a PTO. Ten years after rocking Winnipeg as an 18-year old where he scored 36 goals in 73 games, will a team take a chance on the 28-year old?

Jets news:

NHL.com: Hometown Remix jerseys, apparel coming to NHL this season. Folks across the league are curious what their respective new jerseys will look like but they will not find out until the seasons starts.

The Athletic: Remembering a time your NHL team got smoked by a random rookie making his debut. (Paywall). I totally forgot about that game for the Jets back in 2019 against the Avs.

Sportsnet: 12 under-the-radar NHL acquisitions who could surprise next season. Missed this from last week but he’s got Mario Ferraro on his list and I tend to agree that he really could be a good fit in the lineup.

Illegal Curve Hockey: Media availability with Tyrel Bauer after signing a two-year contract with the JetsFresh off signing a two-year contract with the Jets last week, we caught up with defenceman Tyrel Bauer as he prepares for his fifth season in Winnipeg.
