Note: The Jets season came to an end with a thud on Thursday night and Friday we heard from eight players as the team held their end of season exit interviews. You can watch every single interview on our site as well as on our YouTube channel:
Cole Perfetti | Jonathan Toews | Gabriel Vilardi | Josh Morrissey |
Adam Lowry | Mark Scheifele | Kyle Connor | Connor Hellebuyck |
Note II: There were lots of interesting tidbits discussed over the course of yesterday which will we cover in more depth over the next few days. We will also hear from head coach Scott Arniel and GM Kevin Cheveldayoff on Monday.
Note III: There is still pro hockey being played by a Winnipeg based team as the Moose are finishing off the road portion of the regular season with games that matter as they continue to jockey for playoff positioning. Last night in Des Moines, Manitoba looked like they’d take it in regulation with a late 3rd period goal but Iowa tied it up 22 seconds later during a 6 on 4 and would go on to win 3-2 in a shootout. The single point ensures the Moose will finish no worse than 4th and they could still catch the Stars in 3rd. They have a re-match with the Wild tonight. Puck drop at 6 PM CT.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Mark Scheifele selected to join Canada in Switzerland. No surprise that 55 jumped at the opportunity to represent his country.
Winnipeg Sun: Jonathan Toews taking his time, retirement on his mind. I wouldn’t be able to tell you if he was leaning one way or the other based on yesterday’s comments. We do know if he comes back he wants it to be with Winnipeg.
Winnipeg Sun: Connor Hellebuyck has questions, do the Jets have answers? While he probably needed to acknowledge a bit more that his game wasn’t at the level it needed to be (and I suspect his Olympic success was blinding him a bit in that regard) his questions are very valid.
Winnipeg Sun: Soul-searching Jets rue ‘wasted season’. Career seasons from Mark Scheifele and Gabriel Vilardi seem somewhat tarnished when you consider how the team did not thrive.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets Scheifele, DeMelo to wear Maple Leaf at men’s worlds. (Paywall). Always an honour to represent your country.
Winnipeg Free Press: Hellebuyck fires shots at club following Jets season exit. (Paywall). While saying something to us in the media could be considered a calculated move, it seemed to me that he was being honest and forthright. But at the end of the day he said he wants to win a Cup in Winnipeg.
Winnipeg Free Press: Toews mum on hanging up blades. (Paywall). I wouldn’t put money on which way he decides.
The Athletic Winnipeg: Connor Hellebuyck blasts Jets management, questions if team can build Cup contender. (Paywall). Murat reacts to yesterday’s most newsworthy availability.
TSN: ‘It felt very wrong’: Hellebuyck disappointed after Jets take step back in tough season. He isn’t wrong but the organization made a calculated risk and got burnt as a result.
Global News: Jets need to look past loyalty and focus on change. Here come the youth.
Global News: Hellebuyck, Jets left to deal with rapid fall from grace this season. From first to out of the playoffs. A long offseason is ahead.
