Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | Apr 16, 2026

Note: The Jets travelled back to Manitoba on Wednesday following an unsuccessful final road trip of the regular season. Today they will conclude the regular season when they face the Sharks in Winnipeg. Morning skate gets underway at 10:30 AM so stay tuned for the pre-game report to ensure you’re up-to-date on the latest. Puck drop is at 7 PM CT.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and San Jose, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 9:40 PM CT.

Note III: The Moose had a chance to jump into 3rd place with a win last night in Chicago but despite Jets prospect Colby Barlow heating up, they fell 3-2 in a shootout to the Wolves. Securing the point was important but as a result they remain in 4th place one back of 3rd and four points up on 5th (with the Admirals having a game in hand). They travel to Iowa today where they will conclude the road portion of their schedule.

Note IV: Jets prospect Edison Engle (2025 6th) and his powerhouse Brantford club are off to the third round of the OHL playoffs after earning their second straight series sweep. They will face the winner of Ottawa and Barrie.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Tough love could be remedy for the Jets — again. (Paywall). Plenty of introspection needed by this organization.

Winnipeg Free Press: Hard personnel decisions aplenty for Winnipeg Jets after missing playoffs. (Paywall). Kenny had some thoughts including on how things could shake out for Cole Perfetti in his latest piece.

Global News: Jets won’t waste time searching for solutions. This organization cannot afford to waste any more time because they need to appease two important factions. Firstly, the players that committed long-term to this city and secondly, the fans who provide the revenue for this team to operate.
