Note: Tune in for NHL Mid-Week tonight on TSN 1290 Winnipeg from 6 pm to 8 pm discussing all the latest Winnipeg Jets and NHL news from across the league. Guest: Dave Pollak (San Jose Mercury News).
Note II: Also on TSN 1290, Gary and Hustler host a one hour summit with Jets coach Paul Maurice. Tune in to Hustler and Lawless starting at 4 pm.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: The defence rests. When coach Maurice first arrived he set his mind to improving team defence. With that accomplished after the first ten games or so he switched his focus. Problem is the team has struggled again on the back end.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets talent pool just too shallow to overcome injuries. The IceCaps depth continues to develop (they are a top team in the East and are blazing hot right now) but it is clear that when the Jets have major injuries they still do not have the depth to easily offset them.
Winnipeg Sun: Lay off Andrew Ladd for exercising right to leave Jets for birth of child. How this became a controversy from one tweet is beyond me. Ultimately the only opinion that matters is the captain’s and he doesn’t need approval from anyone to stay at home with his wife. In my mind the only way this ‘could’ have been controversial was if the team was tied for a playoff spot or had a reasonable shot at playoffs but the Jets had a 0.5% shot (now 0.1%) of making the playoffs at that time.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets showed heart deep in the heart of Texas. Kirk talks about two plays of significance from the game against Dallas. The return of Blake Wheeler (I’m still not sure how he came back so quickly) and the on ice theft of Bryan Little’s stick.
