Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Gutsy loss as clear a sign of growth as any. It was pretty evident which was the perennial playoff contender and which was the team still trying to get over that hump but that doesn’t dismiss the effort put forth by an outmatched Jets squad who stuck close to the 1st place Blues for the majority of the evening.
Winnipeg Sun: Maurice miffed about phantom goal. While the Jets bench boss was not a fan of the call, former NHL referee Kerry Fraser, who now is an analyst for TSN, tweeted this “clear cut awarded goal under rule 57.4. Trouba initiated foul from behind Backes in neutral zone with net empty” in response to a question by Russ Hobson of Global TV.
Winnipeg Sun: Same old song for Winnipeg Jets against Blues in St. Louis. The Jets battled hard against a superior team (the win put the Blues four points up in the race for the Presidents Trophy and helped them crack the 100 point mark). The fact that the game winning goal came during a power play which was the result of an offensive zone stick infraction will not sit well with coach Maurice who has been harping on these types of penalties since he first got to Winnipeg.
TSN: Line brawl mars end of Jets-Blues game (video). Mars or makes for a good rivalry. These teams won’t likely play again this year (barring playoff match-up) but you can bet that the players took some numbers this game.
TSN: TSN.ca Power Rankings: Jets #19, Blues #1. I figured that the Jets would have fallen but they stay at 19 largely due to the win over the Stars (doesn’t take into account last night’s loss to Blues). Interesting comment regarding Pavelec/Montoya.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets coach Star-struck by playoff atmosphere. A look back at the MTS Centre on Sunday night and how good the crowd was. Paul also talks about the play of Frolik and the records that were set against Dallas.
