Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets in perfect harmony. Hard to start breaking up this group and selling off the pieces when the team is in the midst of a playoff chase.
Winnipeg Free Press: Don’t expect Chevy to make any major deadline moves. Tim and Ed give you six reasons why you might not want to get too excited over the trade deadline.
Winnipeg Free Press: Ice any idea of WHL’s Kootenay franchise coming to ‘Peg. Guess we will have to wait and see what happens.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets try not to think about trade deadline. Easy to say, not quite as easy to do. While the players only have until Wednesday at 2 pm cst to worry about it, you can bet that they are going to be hounded until then about the potential of being shipped out of town.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets could end up becoming buyers, not sellers, at trade deadline. I wouldn’t envy the position of GM Cheveldayoff right now. He speaks about development and drafting so how does he break away from this mentality when his fan base is screaming to win and win now? With the Jets now a little farther from a playoff spot than they were on Sunday (Dallas beat Buffalo 3-2 last night) will Chevy make moves to try and help this team secure that 8th spot or will he trade his assets (Jokinen, Setoguchi) for the long term future of this team? What would you do?
Winnipeg Sun: Maurice ready for anything as trade deadline approaches. While I’m sure coach Maurice respects the long term vision of GM Cheveldayoff, a coach’s job is to win and win now. This means that while he knows the team is wanting to build for the future, he has to live in the present.
CBC: 5 Things to Watch. Jeff gives you five things to be aware of as the Jets get set to take on the Islanders tonight at the MTS Centre including; 1) not exactly paradise, 2) gaining ground, 3) who needs Johnny, Islanders do, 4) Deadline looming and 5) Mo’s milestone.
CBC: Jets players wearing locally made hockey skates. Who knew that there was a made in Manitoba product being worn by the Winnipeg Jets!
TSN 1290 Winnipeg: Hustler Lawless (audio). Hustler had a chance to catch-up with Mark Stuart talking about the push for the playoffs and the upcoming trade deadline.
Illegal Curve: Coach Maurice scrum (audio). Update on status of James Wright (Ankle Sprain – out indefinitely) Tomorrow’s lineup. Status of Tangradi (day to day). Avoiding being sellers at deadline. Hard to ignore the UFAs on this team (“All playing tomorrow”). How does the trade deadline impact players? Getting the group to be more confident in their abilities. Shots against/discipline. Having a young team and not getting calls.
Islanders news:
Newsday: Vanek hints that he might have accepted deal had Isles been playoff-bound. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the future that Islanders fans would want to hear.
Newsday: Hamonic suffers suspension for sticking up for teammate. The Manitoba product will be available to play in his home province as he served the one-game suspension on Sunday. Looks for the usual fireworks between him and Evander Kane who have quite the history.
