Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Jets look for two in a row. Ken opens his notebook for you in advance of tonight’s game.
Winnipeg Free Press: Kane clicking with his new line. As I said yesterday on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show it is clear that the trust is building with the Jets new 2nd line. Kane who is a shoot first type of player is showing a lot more confidence in getting the puck to his rookie centre Mark Scheifele.
Winnipeg Free Press: Tough sledding for Buff. He is close to the top in defencemen points in the NHL but there have also been plenty of on ice gaffs that we are sure the burly blueliner would like to forget.
Winnipeg Sun: Montoya gets the call. It seemed inevitable that coach Noel would have to give his #1 tender a bit of a break and trust in backup Al Montoya. Sure enough on Saturday he announced that this was his intention and declared the Big Cubano as the starter tonight against the Avalanche.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets have gone month since posting back-to-back wins. While the game against the Wild this past Friday was a bit uncharacteristic can the Jets follow this up against a surly Avalanche team coming off an embarrassing 7-2 loss to Chicago? Kirk also looks at Merchiori’s debut and Adam Pardy losing his blade.
Avalanche news:
Denver Post: Nathan MacKinnon would have liked another shot with Canada’s WJC team, but has no regrets. In addition to the piece about the Avs rookie, Dater gives you his notes from practice including fact that Varlamov is starting and an interesting note about Hejda and the Czech Olympic team.
IceCaps news:
The Telegram: IceCaps crown Monarchs. Following a disappointing post-Christmas break loss, St. John’s rebounded nicely for a win yesterday.
