Note: Tune into the NHL Mid-Week Show on TSN Radio 1290 tonight from 6 pm to 8 pm as the guys discuss all the latest NHL news and break down all the trades that took place before and during trade deadline day.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Cheveldayoff focuses on long-term assets for Jets.  The Jets didn’t mortgage the future for today but they also didn’t sell today for the future.  Hmmm.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Trouba arrives tomorrow.  Be sure to stay tuned to @illegalcurve for any news about his arrival in the city and his new role with the team.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Sent packing by the IslandersIt was a loss the Jets simply could not afford if they want to be a playoff team.  While they maintain a slim lead in the Southeast division race, all the teams below them have games in-hand.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Buff takes a shine to playing wingHe didn’t seem very enthused post-game.  Only person who knows if this will continue is coach Claude Noel and he wasn’t revealing any of his lineup moves following the loss.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets lose to Islanders, lose fourth straightNot that there is ever a good time to go on a losing streak, but the Jets have picked an inopportune time to go on their longest one of the season.

Winnipeg Sun:  Add at deadline without tradingMany, including Buff and Ladd were surprised to see Dustin Byfuglien start the 3rd period as a forward.  So the Jets now have a scoring winger that gives them some much needed depth.  Of course, despite Buff saying that he would do whatever the team needs to win, you got the sense that he won’t be happy as a forward.

Illegal Curve:  2012 1st round draft pick Jacob Trouba signsThe big news for Jets fans yesterday was the signing of Jacob Trouba who is leaving the University of Michigan to joint the Jets.  Included in this post is a post-game scrum with GM Kevin Cheveldayoff discussing the move to bring Trouba to Winnipeg.

Jets on a Deadline – Islanders 5 Jets 2:

Illegal Curve:  Jets on a Deadline.  Game recaps, post-game audio, video highlights and the NHL.com 3 Stars of the night.

NHL news:

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:  Penguins’ winning streak gets no fond farewellAnd just like that the Pittsburgh 15 game winning streak is overOne positive is Jarome Iginla scored his first goal as a member of the Penguins.

News and Observer:  Pitkanen injury to fuel icing debateAnother completely unnecessary injury that could have been avoided if the NHL implemented hybrid icing.  Hurricane fans couldn’t have been happy seeing Pitkanen leaving the ice on a stretcher last night as the Canes took and lost to division rival Capitals.

Trade news:

Globe and Mail:  Decision time for Kiprusoff and LeafsWhile the talk around the league is that the goalie market is not that interesting the chatter regarding Kiprusoff has yet to cease.

San Jose Mercury News:  Dealing Ryane Clowe a tough call for SharksYou’ve never seen so much excitement for a player who has scored exactly zero goals this season in 28 games.  Some will point out that he is able to put the puck in the net when it matters (i.e. playoffs) but if your team isn’t in the playoffs, not sure how much that scoring will help.

Boston Herald:  B’s score with Jaromir JagrA nice scoring option added by Boston giving them some added offensive deoth after they lost out on the Iginla sweepstakes.  It is hard to believe that he is 41 years old.

The Province:  Canucks land Roy, now look for someone to play with KeslerAs Richard said on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show this is a perfect fit for the Canucks.
