Scoreboard watch tonight:  Capitals @ Hurricanes | Panthers @ Lightning

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Panic time in JetsvilleTwo more games in three days will be the Jets opportunity to put an end to the losing streak and regain some credibility.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Time is running out to prove playoff credIf Olli Jokinen truly believes that this team has what it takes to be a playoff team, then it is time to show that.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets say ticket prices among lowest for Canadian teamsAs a consumer do you really care about the vagaries in ticket pricing in Winnipeg?

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets crash against RangersWhen the Jets failed to capitalize on the 5 on 3 opportunity (failing to register a shot) and then gave up a shorthanded goal to Ryan Callahan, you knew that it was going to be a long night.  Pavelec was sensational again.  The Jets just didn’t have any finish yesterday.  But no time to cry over what could have been as they have a date on Long Island with some IslandersThe only good news is the teams around the Jets continue to lose as well as the Carolina Hurricanes dropped a critical game to Montreal last night.

Winnipeg Sun:  Rangers make Jets pay for poor PP with 4-2 winThe time for pointing fingers is done.  This cannot simply be blamed on one or two players.  Hockey is a team game and the entire team needs to pick it up and play 60 minutes of hockey.  About the only guy on this team who is blameless is Ondrej Pavelec who kept the Jets in the game on numerous occasions.
Ondrej Pavelec v2

Winnipeg Sun:  Chevy says Jets can be both buyers and sellersAfter reading this article I know two things; 1) The Jets can be buyers and 2) they can also be sellers.  Everyone knows what this team needs and the question is do they have the assets to pry this type of player away from another team.  We discussed what the Jets can do and what they need to do in-depth on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show this past Saturday.

Winnipeg Sun:  Clitsome suffers eye injury but coach thinks he’ll be OKIt appeared to be a nothing play but upon further review you could see that Burmistrov’s stick caught him just under the visor, near his eye.  Glad to hear he will be alright.  Will be interesting to see if he is available to play tonight against the Islanders.

Winnipeg Sun:  Putrid power play kills Winnipeg Jets momentumThere is nothing special about the Jets special teams.  We have been calling for an end to the Olli Jokinen experiment on the point and clearly it isn’t workingWhen you are given these types of opportunities in a close game, this can usually be the difference between winning and losing.

Jets on a Deadline – Rangers 4 Jets 2:

Illegal Curve:  Jets on a DeadlineGame recaps, coach Noel post-game, video highlights and the NHL.com 3 Stars of the night.

Opposition (Islanders) news:

New York Post:  Islanders beat Devils, stay on course for playoff spotAs has been the case with spots 7-13 in the Eastern Conference nobody is ready to separate themselves from the packIsles are 6-4-0 in their last 10 games.

ESPN:  Islanders continue playoff push.    They have been quite streaky this season but are in the mix for a playoff spot.

NHL news:

CBC:  Leafs allowed to speak with Miika KiprusoffNot sure about this move as the Leafs goaltending tandem has served admirably in their current role.  Reimer’s numbers are better than Kiprusoff’s, which leads you to believe that the Leafs just want the veteran in case the playoff rookies were to falter.

Calgary Herald:  Feaster shoulders blame for Flames’ woesAlways big of a GM to take it on the chin and admit that it is his fault that his club is strugglingIf he continues to have the support of ownership, and there is nothing indicating that he doesn’t at this point, how he moves the Flames forward can go a long way to repairing his reputation in that town.

Calgary Herald:  Flames deal Bouwmeester to BluesAfter the trade of  Iginla each subsequent deal will be much less painful for Calgary fans although Alberta product Jay Bouwmeester will leave a big defensive hole on this team.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch:  Blues acquire BouewmeesterTaking a look at the deal from the St. Louis perspective.

Buffalo News:  Sabres send Regehr to KingsThis was the big news of the day until the above trade broke.  The fire sale in Buffalo is on and don’t count GM Regier as done just yet.  Could still get a few deals done as GMs from across the league desperate to keep up with the arms race, make offers that can help him rebuild this Sabres team.
