Note: Tune into the NHL Mid-Week Show on TSN Radio 1290 tonight from 7 pm to 9 pm as the guys discuss all the latest NHL news. Guests: David Poile (Nashville Predators GM)
Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Swooning when surging is critical. It is gut check time for this team. Fans don’t want to hear platitudes. They want to see action. Too much pretty play. Time to get dirty.
Winnipeg Free Press: Not in it? Won’t win it. The Panthers were missing a ton of regular players and it seems like the Jets believed that victory would be handed to them by a rookie goalie. Well Jacob Markstrom won the game and the Panthers players did what they needed to do to win the game.
Winnipeg Free Press: Great time to make hay. Including last Saturday’s game against the Capitals the Jets were scheduled to play four games in a row against the Southeast division. Continuing their winning ways could have seen this team comfortably atop the standings. Instead they have already lost twice and even worse, last night every other team in the Southeast (Tampa, Washington and Carolina) all won.
CBC: Jets show ‘indifference and ineptitude’. You have to love playing in a hockey mad market. One moment you can do no wrong and even winning ugly is a thing of beauty. But when you start losing, the sky is falling.
Winnipeg Sun: And now for another disturbing trend. As soon as I saw Burmistrov laughing on the bench, you had a feeling he was going to be vilified over it. No question however that the team last night had too many passengers along for the ride. Captain Andrew Ladd said it best following the game “Comes down to needing everyone in this room to buy into what we are doing and have that resolve every night and desperation every night”.
Winnipeg Sun: Power outage. Coach Noel didn’t mince words. He felt that his team wasn’t doing enough to draw the Panthers into taking a penalty against them. And while the Jets PP has been less than stellar, any advantage in a game like that is a welcome one.
Illegal Curve: Jets on a Deadline – Panthers 4 Jets 1. Game recaps, post-game quotes, video highlights and the NHL.com 3 Stars of the night.
Winnipeg Sun: Injured Zach Redmond gives thanks via twitter. Good to see that the young defenceman is on the road to recovery.
NHL news:
Globe and Mail: Stability in Leafs’ crease has put Luongo trade talk on hold. Lots of pressure playing in the biggest fishbowl in the league under a coach who isn’t exactly known for going easy on his players.
CBC: 30 Thoughts. Elliotte Friedman always writes a column worth reading. Begins with talk about Ryan O’Reilly and how it remains a hot topic around the league.
Video of the Night – Eric Fehr with the OT winner:
The Winkler, Manitoba product parted the seas as he split the Boston defence and then went roof daddy on Tuukka Rask. Fehr now has eleven points (five goals and six assists) in 18 games with the Capitals. Last season he had three (two goals and one assist) with the Jets in 35 games.
