Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

CBA News: Gloves are off in NHL Labour talks. Labour talks strike bump in the road. All talk; No trust, No progress. NHL News: KHL still a mess. Sundin ‘was just so good’. Pavel Bure was my hero. Russian Rocket reluctant to return the love. Sakic HOF weekend begins.

Note: During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health initiatives. If you’d like to help the Illegal Curve team as we raise money and awareness you are welcome to do so; Dave, Ezra & Drew.

Please note that today’s Illegal Curve Hockey Show has been cancelled, Drew, Richard and Ezra have gone off to Minneapolis to take in a Vikings game and a Bruce Springsteen concert. The show will be back next week at it’s regular scheduled time.

Jets & Affiliate news:

With it being the lockout, a slow news day in Jets land.

CBA news:

CBC.ca: Gloves are off in NHL labour talks. Elliotte Friedman with an up to date account of the current lockout. He sums up this depressing time in NHL history by saying,  “We’ve only had four real days of hard-core negotiations in this horribly-managed labour dispute.” As my dad used to say to me, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”; meaning, it will take a bit more than four days of negotiating to end this lockout.

The Canadian Press: NHL labour talks strike bump in the road on 4th consecutive day of negotiations. One day the two sides are close to making a deal, the next day the two sides couldn’t be further a part. Rinse, wash, repeat.

Sportsnet.ca: Grange on CBA: All talk; No trust, No progress. I wonder if even HBO’s 24/7 could make this lockout any less depressing.

ESPN: Sources: Tensions rise in talks. The tension rises, but the probability of reaching a deal stays the same.

NHL news:

Globe & Mail: Even with lockout-out NHL stars, KHL still a mess. A long feature by Eric Reguly on the current state of the KHL, definitely worth a read.

National Post: ‘He was just so good:’ Mats Sundin heads to Hall of Fame. He was Mr. Consistency for the Maple Leafs, taking two teams to the Conference Finals, but they couldn’t quite get over the hump. (But boy could they beat Ottawa).

Vancouver Sun: ‘Russian Rocket’ Pavel Bure was my hero. Even though he did not have the longevity of other Hall of Famers, there is no doubt he was one of the top players in the league when he played. It’s too bad that his actions off the ice have clouded the debate on his place in hockey season.

Vancouver Sun: Cancuks Russian Rocker reluctant to return the love. Pavel Bure’s spectacular on ice play, combined with the off ice drama would make a great ESPN 30 for 30.

Denver Post: Joe Sakic: HOF weekend begins. I expect we’ll see more on Joe Sakic from Adrian Dater leading up to the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.
