Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: We ended July with a chat with newly signed Dylan Samberg who participated in a media availability to discuss his new three year deal in Winnipeg. While it would appear the Jets can take some time during the month of August to relax there is still the possibility the organization signs extensions with captain Adam Lowry and top winger Kyle Connor. We will keep our eyes open for any news in that regard.

Note II: The team revealed the new numbers for the players who joined the organization this summer. In total it impacted 12 players including a trio of guys (David Gustafsson, Ville Heinola and Parker Ford) who either gave up an existing number or switched to a new one.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Dylan Samberg is ‘very excited’ to be back for 3 more years. Plenty of folks were lamenting that it wasn’t a longer deal and I understand the sentiment. But what is unknown was what was the ask from the Samberg camp to get him to a six + year deal. We don’t know. So ultimately both team and player made a deal that makes sense for now and will be revisited in the future. The most important thing was no bridges were burned.

Sportsnet: Dylan Samberg excited to prove himself after signing new deal with Jets. And clearly wants to be a Winnipeg Jet for a long time based on what he said to us yesterday.

Global News: ‘Some nerves’: Dylan Samberg’s new contract with Winnipeg Jets came down to 11th hour. He did say he appreciated learning about the arbitration process but was also happy he ultimately got to avoid it.
