Winnipeg Free Press:  Career-killer.  There could be a massive roster change for the Jets.  So many things might happen and that uncertainty remains while the lockout continues.

IceCaps official site:  IceCaps stymied by Pirates.  Not a great start to the road trip last night as the offence failed to click once again.

Reporter Herald:  Colorado Eagles work in win.  And there goes the losing streak for the Jets ECHL affiliate on the strength of 6 goals in the victory.

CBC:  Donald Fehr’s memo to players.  Just putting out the fire that yesterday’s quasi positive news may have ignited.

Globe and Mail:  Owners inject some hope with concession in ‘make-whole’ provision.  But of course neither side is going to publicly blink for a bit longer.

CBC:  NHL, players’ union close to resuming talks.  So they waste 2 weeks, cancel the Winter Classic and then decide to have talks.  Just brilliant.

Globe and Mail:  Why the NHL pulled the plug.  Shoalts gives a breakdown of the events that necessitated, at least in the league’s mind, the cancellation of the NHL’s marquee event.

Globe and Mail:  NHL makes another PR blunder by blowing up Winter Classic.  From a PR point of view, the only thing worse is cancelling the entire season and even that might not be the case considering many casual hockey fans become aware of the fastest game on ice when HBO starts covering the lead up to the New Years game.

NHL news:

National Post:  Markham’s NHL dreams take a hit, courtesy of deputy mayor.  As more and more questions get asked it appears the arena in southern Ontario might not be as close to fruition as previously thought.

CBC:  Georges Laraque resigns from CHLPA over controversy.  Looks like he is going out in style, with guns blazing.
