Note: Tune into the Illegal Curve Hockey Show tomorrow from noon to 3 pm as the guys have 3 hours of hockey talk on TSN Radio 1290. Guests: Aaron Portzline (Columbus Dispatch) and John Davidson (President of the Columbus Blue Jackets).
Note II: Jets had 13 games scheduled for November, which according to Elliotte Friedman have been cancelled. 5 home (Lightning, Predators, Devils, Habs, Leafs) & 8 away (FLA, MTL, BOS, NYR, WASH, PHIL, CAR, BUFF). The November 1st Lightning game was already cancelled by the NHL but we’re including it as part of the November schedule.
Jets, Affiliate & local news:
Barrie Colts official site: Colts edge Battalion 2-1, Scheifele moves into 1st in OHL. Another goal last night for the Jets 1st round pick in 2011 helping his team to 1st place in the OHL and his goal also kept him in 1st place in OHL scoring.
Northern Colorado 5: Eagles asking fans for Hometown Hero. A nice way to show appreciation to the military men and women in the community.
CBA news:
National Post: NHL slices another month from the schedule as lockout talks stall. Not unexpected but a shame nonetheless. As you can see it cost Jets fans 4 more home games (November 1st game against Tampa was already cancelled).
Globe and Mail: NHL’s latest action is merely semantics. It continues to be disheartening for fans to watch this drama play out.
ESPN: NHL plans to withdraw proposal. Appears the show will continue. Today the NHL will “formally” withdraw its proposal, cancel some games and each side will retreat to their respective sides. And of course another weekend of potential negotiation is wasted.
Columbus Dispatch: All-Star game safe … for now. Looks like Monday is D-day for both the All-Star game and Winter Classic.
Toronto Sun: Dollars and sense in the NHL. What a shock. Players have done exceptionally well under the current system. Not surprisingly, the only people ‘hurt’ since 2004-05 are fans who have seen ticket and concession prices rise.
TSN: Sabres’ Miller says NHL lockout is just to satisfy egos. Miller always has an interesting point or three to make and this time is no exception.
NHL news:
Sportsnet: KHL cancels games in Brooklyn. Bowing to pressure to play in Russia, it looks like the KHL won’t be playing the New York state anytime soon.
Newsday: Charles Wang says Islanders will make playoffs if NHL season is played. They finished 14th in the East last year and 13 points out of 8th spot so it will be a big hill to climb if they want to make the playoffs.
New York Times: Islanders’ Brooklyn move raises complex issues. A number of questions to answer but luckily for Wang and company they have until 2015 before they have to answer them.
