Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: Most of the Jets hit the ice on Friday in Utah for a practice with the exception of Nikolaj Ehlers who was seen by Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Free Press to be walking around but didn’t take part in the skate. Head coach Scott Arniel said afterwards that he is considered a game-time decision for the game this evening in Salt Lake City. Morning skate for Winnipeg gets underway at 11:15 AM CDT so stay tuned for the pre-game report to ensure you’re up-to-date on the latest. Puck drop is at 6 PM CDT.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Utah we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 8:40 PM CDT.

Note III: The Moose practiced on Friday including former captain of Ohio State Patrick Guzzo who they signed to an ATO. They are back in action this afternoon when they welcome the Wolves to town to kick off a pair of matinees against their long-time Central Division rival. Puck drop is at 2 PM CDT.

Note IV: Jets prospects were playing last night in both the OHL and WHL. Colby Barlow (2023 1st) with his patented slapper PP goal and an assist but it comes in an Oshawa loss as the Generals drop game 5 which means game 6 on Sunday in Brampton. Brayden Yager (2023 1st) and his Hurricanes pick up the game 5 win over the Wheat Kings and will advance to the second round. He had 1G 1A in the game. He finished with 11 shots on goal (Brandon as a team had 26). Last up Markus Loponen (2024 5th) had an assist in the Royals game 5 romp over Tri-City which they won 7-0 as they will also advance to the second round.

Note V: The band is getting back together this morning starting at 9 AM CDT for two hours of Jets talk on the IC Hockey Show as we recap the week that was in Jetsland and get you set for the game between Winnipeg/Utah. Guests include Jacob Stoller of Sportsnet and Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Dodging a bullet: Jets’ star Ehlers could play Saturday. While I always take anything the coaching staff tells you at this time of year with a grain of salt the fact he was seen walking around is probably more comforting for Jets fans.

Winnipeg Sun: Must be something in the water for Jets, NHL Central. And if the Wild hadn’t suffered all those injuries they too could have been up there in this absolutely insane Central.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets captain Lowry delivers when moment demands it the most. (Paywall). Wieber with an off day piece on captain clutch.

Global News: ‘Stabilizing force’: Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck putting in MVP-calibre season. He has been the remarkable seem ordinary this season.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Why Jets’ Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor, Cole Perfetti are more playoff-ready this season. (Paywall). This has been a question mark for some time and Murat provides you with his insight on the subject.

Jets video:

Daily Faceoff: Conversation with Jets defenceman Luke Schenn. Luke Schenn joined Frankly Speaking to unpack one of the wildest stretches of his NHL career — getting traded twice in 48 hours, and landing with the Winnipeg Jets. Schenn opens up about the behind-the-scenes emotional toll of constant moves, what it’s like balancing family life with pro hockey, and the journey that nearly ended before reaching 1,000 NHL games. Runs almost 40 minutes but well worth your time.

Jets prospect news:

TSN: Brayden Yager welcomes change after trades to Jets and Lethbridge. Been quite the calendar year for the Saskatoon product.
