Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets are back in action today in Vegas after taking Wednesday off following their 4-1 loss to the Kings on Tuesday night. Morning skate for Winnipeg gets underway at 1 PM CDT so stay tuned for the pre-game report to ensure you’re up-to-date on the latest. Puck drop is at 9 PM CDT.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Vegas, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 11:40 PM CDT.

Note III: The Moose were in action last night as they wrapped up their two-game set with the league leading Rocket and for 50 minutes things were looking good for the home team. They had a 1-0 lead courtesy of Dylan Coghlan’s 11th goal of the season and prospect goalie Thomas Milic, back up from the ECHL after being named goalie of the month for March, had made 25 saves on 25 shots. But in less than five minutes the visitors scored on their 26th, 27th and 28th shots of the game to take a 3-1 lead which is how the game would end. As a result of the loss Manitoba have been eliminated from playoff contention.

Note IV: The WHL was busy last night. Brayden Yager (2023 1st) and his Hurricanes were going for the series sweep but the Wheat Kings pulled out the win. He did pick up a beauty shorthanded goal. Markus Loponen (2024 5th) had his first two playoff goals for Victoria as they too missed a chance to sweep their first round series with Tri City. Connor Levis (2023 7th) scored his second goal of the playoffs (turned out to be the game-winning goal) as his hometown Vancouver team picked up a game 3 win over Spokane.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Less finesse, more force: Jets have seven games to heat up power play. Seems to be they are standing still and reverting to style over substance when they have the man advantage.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets bristle at suggestion they need to measure up. I will say this team does play better when they are being disregarded so perhaps they can use it to their advantage.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets rebuff ‘measuring stick’ comment after Kings’ season series sweep. (Paywall). Feels like we are at the point of the season where there is heightened sensitivity to every win or loss. Just like the local NHL club can’t get to ahead of their skis when they are winning a similar mindset exists for a loss (or two).

Daily Faceoff: Breaking down the five playoff locks that might be paper tigers. Not a big believer in the Jets.

Jets video:

TSN: Who needs a division win more – Jets or LeafsWith Winnipeg currently leading the Central Division and Toronto currently leading the Atlantic, TSN Hockey analyst Frankie Corrado examines which team needs a division win more in this edition of The Talking Point.

Jets audio:

The Jime Rome Show: Conversation with Jets head coach Scott Arniel. The Jets were off yesterday but Jets head coach Scott Arniel took some time to join Jim Rome on The Jim Rome Show to talk about his hockey club. The interview runs about 11 minutes.

680 CJOB: Jets at Noon. I joined Jim Toth and Cam Poitras to share my thoughts on Winnipeg’s loss on Tuesday night in Los Angeles and to provide an update on the season winding down for the Moose. We also covered the latest with the pro prosects in Manitoba.

Jets prospect news:

TSN: Barlow excited to stay in Canada and one day play for Jets. It was an unusual 2024-25 season for the Jets first rounder as he navigated being with a new team and one that has a lot of elite players. He really seems to have elevated his game since the playoffs came around.
