Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: After hitting the ice for practice on Saturday where head coach Scott Arniel provided the latest updates on Neal Pionk and Gabriel Vilardi, the Jets will wrap up their four-game homestand with a matinee against the Canucks. With it being an afternoon game no morning skate but you can check out the pre-game report to ensure you’re fully up-to-date ahead of puck drop. That takes place at 2 PM CDT.

Note II: This afternoon, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Vancouver, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 4:40 PM CDT.

Note III: The Moose concluded their road trip in Rockford with a 5-2 loss to the Icehogs which all but ends their playoff dreams. Had they won they’d be nine points back with eight games to go but instead they are 13 points back of the fifth and final spot in the Central. They did get goals from Dominic Toninato who leads the team in that category and Jets prospect Brad Lambert who scored off this turnover after going without a tally for 14 games.

Note IV: Jets 2023 3rd rounder Zach Nehring and his Western Michigan squad won the Fargo Regional with a 2-1 victory over Massachusetts making the Frozen Four for the first time. It gets underway on April 10th in St. Louis where they will face the winner of tonight’s Denver vs Boston College game. Over in the WHL it was 2023 1st rounder Brayden Yager, who followed up his two primary assist in game 1, with two goals in game 2 as he helped Lethbridge take a 2-0 series lead over Brandon. The series shifts now to Manitoba for game 3.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Jets defenceman Luke Schenn is high on the hit list. Kinda crazy when you see him at 4th and Alex Ovechkin at 3rd.

Winnipeg Sun: ‘We’re pushing every day’: Jets wary of the hard-charging Dallas Stars. And this was written before Dallas defeated Seattle last night and moved back within four points of Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets aim to take care of business as they enter final stretch. (Paywall). Despite what other teams are doing the Jets know they have to continue to play their game.

Sportsnet: Hellebuyck continues to build case for Hart Trophy. Will be interesting to see if he can become the first goalie to win since Carey Price in 2015.
