Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets had both their Trade Deadline acquisitions (Luke Schenn and Brandon Tanev) in the lineup on Tuesday night as they welcomed the Rangers to town for the first time in 17 months (odd little quirk of the schedule). For Schenn it was his first ever time wearing a Winnipeg uniform while for Tanev it was his first regular season home game since April 2, 2019. It was a tight contest but a PP goal in the middle frame proved to be the difference as Winnipeg defeated New York 2-1 for their league leading 45th win of the year. They are scheduled to practice at 12 noon. Check back for the Practice Report.

Note II: The Moose are hitting the ice this morning at 9 AM CST before they head out on the road for four games starting in Chicago. Check back for the Practice Report.

Note III: Jets prospect Kieron Walton (2024 6th) had two primary assists last night for Sudbury. He now sits with 36G 52A for 88 points in 60 games. That’s good enough for 9th overall in the OHL points race. His b/f and fellow prospect Kevin He (2024 4th) had a goal and assist for Niagara yesterday. He’s at 33G 38A for 71 points in 57 games. His 1.25 PTS/G up from the 0.83 he had last season.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Jets win nasty tilt with Rangers, rival Stars up next. Paul gives you his take on what he saw last night inside CLC between Winnipeg and New York.

Winnipeg Free Press: Perfetti sets up both Jets goals in 2-1 win over Rangers. It’s been about six weeks since he adopted the alter ego of Prickfetti and his play has certainly reflected a player who is playing with more edge, more confidence and an evolution to his game.

TSN: Schenn stands tall in Jets’ debut. In his Winnipeg debut, Luke Schenn blocked five shots, and delivered five hits. TSN’s Dan Robertson and Kevin Sawyer have more on the impact Schenn had, and how important it was to get depth scoring in a tight game against the Rangers.

TSN: Was it a mistake for Winnipeg not to load up at deadlineWhile division rivals from Colorado and Dallas were loading up before the NHL trade deadline, Winnipeg added some depth pieces. Was it a mistake not to add a big name? TSN Hockey analyst Martin Biron shares his thoughts on that, and explains how important it will be for the team’s depth to step forward and support like they did in the Jets’ win over the Rangers.
