Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets have taken their eight-game win streak into the 4 Nation break which means players won’t be back on the ice in Winnipeg (formally-ish) until the the 18th when they hold an optional skate. Although there is one player who is in limbo as Mark Scheifele, according to Darren Dreger, has been placed on alert by Hockey Canada in the event of another injury or if Sidney Crosby is unable to play (87 missed the Penguins last two games).

Note II: The Moose kicked off the first of six home games on Saturday afternoon but it didn’t go particularly well. They were without Jets prospect Chaz Lucius who was scheduled to miss his second straight game although play-by-play voice Daniel Fink said he is expected back soon. Despite getting back Brad Lambert and Parker Ford the team couldn’t generate offence until the game was out of hand when Wild goalie Samuel Hlavaj went for an empty net goal but ended up breaking up his shutout bid with the puck going in off captain Dominic Toninato (see here on twitter and here on bluesky). Manitoba will look to earn a split with Iowa this afternoon. Puck drop is at 1 PM CST.

Note III: It was a busy weekend for Jets prospect Brayden Yager who followed up his five point game on Friday with three points (1G 2A) on Saturday as Lethbridge won 4-0 as he was named 2nd Star of the Game. He had an absolute bardown beauty of a goal (see it here on twitter and here on bluesky).

We discussed the win over the Islanders, their eighth straight. And where do Jets have to get in playoffs for it not to be considered a disappointing season, whether the Jets needs have changed, benefits to guys who are playing in 4 Nation and Winnipeg being at top of no-go lists.
