Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note: The Jets wanted revenge against Utah for a bad 5-2 defeat they suffered five days earlier in Salt Lake Citty and they got it by reversing the score on them with a 5-2 win last night in Winnipeg. The focus was on the hat ‘prick’ by Cole Perfetti and the 500th NHL point for Nikolaj Ehlers who was a game-time decision before warm-up but also notable was that it was the 30th win for Connor Hellebuyck (the next closest goalie in the NHL has 24 wins). The team will put last night’s victory behind them as they turn their attention to the Flames who they will face tomorrow night and who they also owe some revenge against as Calgary defeated them last Saturday night in Winnipeg. Today they practice at 12 noon out at the hockey for all centre. Stay tuned for the Practice Report.

Note II: The Moose hit the ice for a practice on Friday as they got ready for today’s re-match with the Griffins. They’ll look to earn a split after blowing the game on Thursday which saw a 3-1 lead in the 3rd evaporate into a 5-4 loss in regulation. Puck drop is at 2 PM CST.

Note III: It was quite the night for Jets 2023 1st rounder Colby Barlow who had 4G 1A for Oshawa. Finished with nine shots in the game and was named 1st Star. He’s on an eight game points streak (16 pts). He’s at 26G 18A for 44 points in 42 games and if you lop off his first 10 games of the season (1G 2) he’s got 25G 16A for 41 points in 32 games.

Sportsnet: ‘Mad’ Cole Perfetti goes off in defining effort for Jets vs. Utah. It was humourous when head coach Scott Arniel spoke after the game in the Matt Frost Media Centre and said something like ‘you guys made him mad’. He was clearly kidding (I think) but number 91 did have himself a game as Jacob wrote in his piece.

Winnipeg Sun: Perfetti explodes, Ehlers hits 500, as Jets avenge loss to Utah. Who woulda thunk it that an innocuous question about his play would lead to his ‘prick” comment and then a huge game later that night. Paul provides some context in his recap of the game.

Salt Lake City Tribune: John Marino believes ‘there’s still a lot left’ in Utah Hockey Club. It was a good effort from the club that had defeated the Wild 4-0 the night before. Check out the game recap from a writer that covers the Jets opponent.
