Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets went to Salt Lake City for the first time to take on the Utah HC and they laid an absolute egg playing a game that didn’t reflect “Winnipeg hockey” that ultimately saw them lose the game by a final score of 5-2. No time for them to lament the loss as they flew to Colorado where they were set to practice as they prepare for tomorrow’s game against the Avalanche. There was no update following the game on Jets captain Adam Lowry who appeared to get injured in the 1st and missed the next two periods. The team cancelled practice so we may have to wait for tomorrow for an update on 17.

Note II: There is still expected to be a fireside chat with Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff with the travelling media at some point today. He already spoke to Jets play-by-play voice Dan Robertson of TSN last night on the broadcast where he said they have not yet sat down for conversations with any of their pending UFAs (or RFAs for that matter). Of course the lack of conversation might be cause for concern for Jets fans as to what will happen with Nikolaj Ehlers and his long-term future in Winnipeg beyond this season.

Note III: It isn’t just the NHL club of Winnipeg which we will hopefully get health updates on as the AHL team of Manitoba may provide us with updates on a pair of Jets prospects. Elias Salomonsson (2022 2nd) might be ready to join the group for practice as he recovers from an upper-body injury suffered on December 6th as well as one on Nikita Chibrikov (2021 2nd) who left the Moose game on Sunday and did not return. Stay tuned for the Practice Report.

Global News: Jets lose the game and their captain in Utah. We shall learn soon enough if the injury to the Jets captain is serious or not. Losing the game, while not ideal, isn’t the end of the world but losing the man up the middle for any length of time could be.
