Note: The Jets wrapped up the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule yesterday in Toronto as they picked up a big 5-2 win over the Leafs. They’ll be off the next few days returning to Winnipeg on Friday for practice as they prepare for the red-hot Senators on Saturday afternoon. For now they are off.
Note II: The Moose are also on holiday break.
Note III: Of course you can still watch Jets prospect Brayden Yager (2023 1st) and Canada in the World Juniors which gets underway in Ottawa on Boxing Day.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Jets end skid against Leafs, hit holidays on a high. As Jerry Seinfeld would say “always leave on a high note” which the NHL club of Winnipeg did against the NHL club of Toronto with their big win yesterday to close out the Christmas portion of the schedule.
Winnipeg Free Press: Scheifele shines against Leafs. (Paywall). You can take the kid out of Kitchener but you cannot take his love of beating the Leafs as 55 played a big role in the win over Toronto. Ken gives you his analysis.
Sportsnet: Jets’ Scheifele playing with a vengeance after 4 Nations snub. There is no question 55 is playing with determination this season but it pre-dates the snub in my mind. He has his eyes on the prize of a Cup as he knows that is truly what cements a legacy. Obviously international play is important as well but not quite at same level (at least this upcoming tournament) as Lord Stanley’s mug.
Global News: Jets top Leafs 5-2 ahead of NHL’s holiday break. Given how they got thumped in their first meeting of the season it likely felt good for the visitors to return the favour on Monday.
Toronto Sun: Leafs head into Christmas break on a downer in loss to Jets. Read about the game from the perspective of a writer that doesn’t cover the Leafs.
Jets video:
TSN: Scheifele on Jets win over Leafs: ‘We stayed patient and didn’t chase the game’. Jets forward Mark Scheifele spoke with TSN’s Dan Robertson following his hat trick performance against the Maple Leafs to discuss what beating Toronto for the first time since 2021, the chemistry with his linemates Gabriel Vilardi and Kyle Connor, and what makes Connor Hellebuyck special.
TSN: Scheifele and Connor cruise as Jets rout Leafs. Mark Scheifele scored a hat trick and Kyle Connor lit the lamp twice as the Jets snapped a six-game losing streak to Toronto. The TSN Hockey panel have more on their impressive play, and what the Maple Leafs should do about injured captain Auston Matthews.
