Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets took Sunday off and used it as a travel day to fly to northern California as they got their Moms Trip underway ahead of a pair of games starting in San Jose. Unlike last year when they went 0/3 they are already winners as the Moms were in attendance for the 4-2 win over the Habs on Saturday night. The team is expected to practice today so stay tuned for a Practice Report as we find out how ready Nikolaj Ehlers and David Gustafsson are!

Note II: The Moose are in tough right now as they lost all four games of their road trip to Alberta and BC culminating in yesterday’s 4-0 loss to the Canucks which was their eighth straight loss (0-7-0-1). About the only positive spin is that Jets 2021 1st rounder Chaz Lucius continues to play consistently after missing a month of games with last night being his sixth straight game for Manitoba in the last ten days.

Note III: Not too many prospects in action on Sunday but the ones that were were productive. In a battle of best friends who happens to also be Jets prospects it was Kevin He (2024 4th) and his Niagara IceDogs who came out on top of Kieron Walton (2024 6th) and his Sudbury Wolves. Both players produced in the game with He putting up 1G 2 A while Walton finished with 2A (both primary). He sits 14th overall in OHL points (4th in goals) while Walton is tied for 3rd overall with points (on a 12 game points streak with 30 points during that stretch). Jacob Julien (2023 5th) got his second game-winning goal of the weekend for London. Over in the WHL it was a big night for Connor Levis (2023 7th) who had 4G for Vancouver.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Laine having fun on and off the ice again. (Paywall). Wieber’s piece on the 2nd overall pick from 2016 who seems to be back and doing well on and off the ice.

Sportsnet: ‘Generational goalie’: Jets’ Hellebuyck delivers another reminder of impactI hadn’t realized Hellebuyck never heard the comments from Laine so I guess there wasn’t any bulletin board material after all other than a Hall of Fame (to be) goalie wanting to stop his former teammate who has a generational shot.
