Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: All of the Jets, sans David Gustafsson (concussion protocol) and Connor Hellebuyck (maintenance), were on the ice for practice on Wednesday as they moved past their big victory over the Bruins on Tuesday night and changed their focus to the Golden Knights who they will take on tonight in downtown Winnipeg. Nikolaj Ehlers still doesn’t seem very likely to return anytime soon which means more Nikita Chibrikov time as the Jets prospect (2021 2nd) continues to try to make an impression. Be sure to check back for the pre-game report for any updates. Morning skate gets underway at 10:30 AM and puck drop is at 7 PM CST.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Vegas, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 9:40 PM CST.

Note III: The Moose were looking to get back on track last night in Calgary in a re-match with the Wranglers but the home team got out to a 3-0 lead before the visitors began to claw their way back into the game. It began with C.J. Suess scoring a shorthanded goal although on that same power play Calgary scored making it a 4-1 game. They scored again in the 2nd as Mason Shaw got his fourth which cut deficit to 4-2 and then Manitoba came out flying in the 3rd and got within one courtesy of captain Dominic Toninato. For those fretting the Moose were last in the AHL in late January of 2024 after losing 11 (0-10-1) straight and still ma de the post-season play-in series. Not that I’d advocate following that pattern again but they did get things turned around last season. They are off today to Abbotsford to continue their road trip.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Jets full of ‘piss and vinegar’ for rival Golden Knights. Given how things have gone against Vegas it is with good reason that the local NHL club isn’t happy when they are in town. Now Jets bench boss Scott Arniel wants to have a short memory when it comes to the past (to his credit he feels same for wins as well as losses) so we shall see if they can bring their direct game we saw against the Bruins into tonight’s game.

Winnipeg Sun: ‘You come at one, you come at all of us’: Jets rally around concussed teammate. Nothing solidifies a dressing room quite like coming to the defence of an injured teammate, one who most guys felt shouldn’t have been in that situation in the first place.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets top line finding chemistry. (Paywall). For Winnipeg to be a true contender they have to deliver on most nights. While it’s important to have secondary scoring these are the primary drivers.

Winnipeg Free Press: Stanley questions Frederic’s choice of dance partners. (Paywall). Logan Stanley stated rather matter of factly “I was standing right there so if there was anyone who wanted to go it didn’t have to be Gus” which couldn’t have been any more clear.

Las Vegas Review-Journal: Knights begin road trip in Winnipeg after lengthy break. Find out more about the Jets opponent from a writer that covers the team.
