Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets concluded three games in four days yesterday as they kicked off a four-game homestand with a fairly uneventful 4-1 loss to the Blue Jackets. Probably the highlights of the game were the Royal Canadian Air Force band who played instrumental EDM and then the celebrity look alike featuring a celebrity. The team are off today which given all the snow we got in Winnipeg on Sunday will give the players a chance to get all caught up after being on the road for most of the last month.

Note II: While they only picked up a single point out of four this weekend it was a good news/bad news few days for the AHL club of Manitoba and the Jets prospects that play on the team. The good news was 2021 1st rounder Chaz Lucius looked as good as we’ve seen him as a pro as he played back-to-back games for the first time this season (while also scoring in back-to-back games which you can see here and here). The bad news was 2022 2nd rounder Elias Salomonsson left the game on Friday in what looked like a pretty bad injury. There hasn’t been an update but will try to get one in next few days. The Moose are heading to Calgary today where they will look to get back on track against the Wranglers on Tuesday.

Note III: A few Jets prospects were in action on Sunday night. In the OHL we see the tenacity and determination of Kevin He (2024 6th) comes through when you watch him as he picked up two assists in Niagara’s win. Over in the WHL it was Connor Levis (2023 7th) who had 1G 2A in a win for his hometown Vancouver Giants.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: ‘Gave it away’: Jets’ modest win streak plowed under by visiting Blue Jackets. They couldn’t quite get to streak status and now they’ll have to regroup to take on a tough Bruins team tomorrow night. Paul gives you his thoughts on the loss.

Winnipeg Free Press: Turnovers costly for Jets in lacklustre loss to Blue Jackets. (Paywall). Not sure how some folks feel like Eric Comrie was responsible for the loss. He can’t score and when he’s been in net for the last four games Winnipeg has scored 1G, 1G, 3G and 1G. Not exactly providing him with a ton of run support. Mike gives you his two cents.

Sportsnet: Jets blame loss to Blue Jackets on turnovers, trying to be too pretty. Yeah they got away from what’s been a successful formula for them this season.

Columbus Post-Dispatch: Blue Jackets surge past Winnipeg Jets to cap tough road trip with a boost. Always good to get insight into the game from someone who covers the Jets opponent.

Jets prospect news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Lucius excited to be back playing, scoring. (Paywall). Mike gives a rundown of the guys across the pipeline.
