Note: The Jets have turned their frown upside down as they concluded their monstrous road trip (with two brief stops at home) with two consecutive wins as they ended things with a 4-2 win over the hapless Blackhawks on Saturday afternoon. With the win they are the first team to 20 victories in the NHL. No time to enjoy the win as they are back in action today as they welcome the Blue Jackets to the city for the first of four straight in this province. Stay tuned for the pre-game report in case there are any changes and to get set up ahead of the action. Puck drop is at 5 PM CST.
Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Columbus, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 7:40 PM CST.
Note III: The Moose put themselves into a similar position as the night before against the Senators building up a 3-0 lead before allowing the visitors to get back all the way to a tie before the final buzzer sounded which forced extra time. While goalie Thomas Milic made seven saves on seven shots in OT he gave up one goal in a shootout which meant Manitoba dropped the game 4-3 in a SO. No Elias Salomonsson (no surprise after way he left game last night) but fellow Jets prospect Chaz Lucius looks like he’s back. They are off today.
Note IV: A few Jets prospects were in action on Saturday night. Jets 2023 1st Colby Barlow is going streaking as he scored for the fourth consecutive game. Similar to the night prior 2024 6th rounder Kieron Walton had another two primary assists for Sudbury as he continues to create a name for himself. While Zach Nehring (2023 3rd) had an assist for Western Michigan, Connor Levis (2023 7th) had an assist for Vancouver and Markus Loponen (2024 5th) had an assist for Victoria.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Scheifele comes up clutch for Jets. (Paywall). Wieber was inside the Madhouse on Madison for yesterday’s game and he filed this report on what he saw between the Jets and Hawks.
Winnipeg Sun: Scheifele scores as the Jets beat Blackhawks 4-2. Back-to-back wins will help quash some of the chattering that was going on when this team was mired in a four-game losing streak.
Chicago Sun-Times: Blackhawks suffer another close loss in Anders Sorensen’s NHL coaching debut. Not only did they suffer a loss but two players got injured which isn’t good for a team looking to turn things around.
Jets prospect news:
The Athletic Winnipeg: Reviewing the top-10 players in the pipeline. (Paywall). This was as of Friday night so it doesn’t take into account the two goals scored by 2021 1st rounder Chaz Lucius who as Murat points out was once first on his list.
