Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets practiced in Chicago on Friday where they kept things the same as they had run them during their win in Buffalo on Thursday night. With today being an afternoon game there won’t be a morning skate but the expectation is that things will remain the same. Stay tuned for the pre-game report in case there are any changes and to get set up ahead of the action. Puck drop is at 3 PM CST.

Note II:  This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Chicago, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 5:40 PM CST.

Note III: The Moose were in action last night and if you only watched half the game you’d be quite pleased with the home team up 3-0 but the cliche is that hockey is a 60 minute (at least) game and in the latter half of the middle frame the lead was erased turning it to a 3-3 game after 40 minutes. A mistake early in the 3rd and two empty net goals later the game was over at 6-3 but there was good news/bad news associated with the Jets prospects on the AHL club of Manitoba. These two clubs will meet again tonight to conclude six games at home for the Moose and it’s also their Teddy Bear Toss game so you can bring a stuffed animal to the game to participate and help donate to someone less fortunate. Puck drop is at 6 PM CST.

Note IV: Lots of Jets prospects were in action on Friday night. We got our coverage started with Colby Barlow (2023 1st) who had 1G 1A and is starting to heat up for Oshawa. A fellow OHL prospect who is already red-hot is Kieron Walton (2024 6th) who had two primary assists for Sudbury as he continues to lead his team (and sit tied for 7th in entire league for points). Over in the WHL we saw Brayden Yager (2023 1st) continuing to find success with his new team in Lethbridge putting up three assists while being named 2nd Star of the Game.

Note V: Join us for two hours of Jets talk on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show which gets underway at 9 AM CST as we look back at the week that was in Jetsland, discuss all things related to the NHL team of Winnipeg, toss in some Moose and prospect chatter as well. Guests include Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press and Charlie Roumeliotis of Blackhawks studio host for WGN Radio.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Connor Hellebuyck looks for a Ryan Miller moment, but with a U.S. win. As much as fans of the Winnipeg Jets love their star netminder I suspect the majority of them will be cheering against him next February and will be happy if he gets his Ryan Miller moment.

Winnipeg Free Press: Huge team effort needed to keep Jets at their best during season’s most hectic travel period. (Paywall). The behind the scenes stuff that just gets done and is somewhat taken for granted. Mike peels back the layers to show you what’s involved in keeping an NHL club humming along away from the rink.

Winnipeg Free Press: Hellebuyck proud to represent USA. (Paywall).

Global News: Jets back on track after overtime heroics from key players. This team could ill afford another loss on Thursday and they needed their big dogs to step up.
