Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Site Update: It appears we are fully running again and with upgrades in terms of server capacity and speed to better assist you get the latest Jets and Moose news. We have lost some information from the last few days but it’s fairly minimal. Thanks for bearing with us.

Note: The Jets kept pace with the Stars last night in Dallas and when they couldn’t Connor Hellebuyck was there to keep his team in the game. Probably a good reason he was named 3rd Star of the Month earlier on Sunday. For the second straight game they scored the opening goal of the game but for the second straight game it didn’t help as they fell 3-1 to their division rivals.

Note II: The Moose had a much better effort on Sunday and while they still fell short due to the heroics of Wranglers goalie Devin Cooley the team can feel better about playing a full 60 minute hockey game. They were the better team but still failed to pick up any points after suffering their 11th defeat of the season by a final score of 3-2. Today the team is off.

Note III: We start our examination of Jets prospects over in the OHL to see which ones got on the scoresheet on Sunday. Starting with 2024 4th rounder Kevin He scored his 20th goal of the season (third most in the OHL) while 2023 1st rounder Colby Barlow scored his sixth power play goal of the season as he tries to overcome a slow start to the season and last up was 2023 5th rounder Jacob Julien who had two assists for his juggernaut London team which have won 18 straight games. In the WHL Jets 2023 7th rounder Connor Levis had a goal and assist for his hometown Vancouver Giants and was named 2nd Star of the Game. Nothing on the scoresheet for 2023 1st rounder Brayden Yager whose Moose Jaw club got shutout by Red Deer 9-0. And in the ECHL goalie prospect Domenic DiVincentiis is now a perfect 4-0-0 down with Norfolk as he continues to impress in his first-year as a pro.

Jets news:

Sportsnet: Stanley’s miscues in latest Jets loss begs questions about Heinola’s usage. You do have to wonder if they are trying to slowly insert Heinola back into the lineup because as I said last night on the IC Post-Game Show why not see what you’ve got at the NHL level with Heinola for an extended period of time. Either you see that he is capable of giving you what you need over the next 10-15 games or he isn’t and then you need to make a move accordingly. This is not a decision the organization can wait till April to figure out.

Winnipeg Free Press: Lowry boasts lone goal in loss as Winnipeg Jets losing skid continues into third game. (Paywall). It moved the current captain past former captain Andrew Ladd on the All-Time goals list for the Jets but the efforts of 17 were not enough to get it done. The Jets scoring has dried up. Mike shares more from American Airlines Arena.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets defenceman Logan Stanley lightning rod for critics, but Arniel preaches patience. (Paywall). Three penalties in the game for anyone is gonna be a ‘not good for business situation’. When you’re a six/seven Dman on the team it makes it even worse. The fan base is wondering (at least those on social media) are wondering what is left to be discovered about a player who has been in the pros for seven seasons.
