Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets just were not able to match the hunger the Lightning showed last night as Tampa got off to a good start and really didn’t look back all that much. That’s not to say Winnipeg didn’t have some chances as they did but they were unable to beat goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy who with the win gets to 300 career victories after the 4-1 defeat of the Jets. Today, they head south to Sunrise where they will practice for their game on Saturday against the Panthers which is a home and home series. Stay tuned for the Jets Practice Report.

Note II: The Moose are in Rockford where they will take on the IceHogs tonight as they look to build on their 5-4 shootout win on Wednesday over the Admirals. We shall see if Brad Lambert is ready to return to the lineup and whether the team will give recently loaned netminder Kaapo Kahkonen a start in the net. Puck drop is at 7 PM CST.

Note III: In case fans were wondering if former Jets draft pick Rutger McGroarty heard the “Where is Rutger” chants he sure did.

Jets news:

Sportsnet: Eric Comrie shines, but Jets leave him out to dry in loss to Lightning. I thought he looked good in the net and would agree that the team did him no favours in the game. Jacob on this and more takeaways from the loss.

Winnipeg Sun: Lightning snap Jets unbeaten road record in turbulent game for Winnipeg. Tampa just seemed to be the quicker team in the hockey game with the Jets just a step or two behind them throughout the hockey game.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ Mark Scheifele deserves Team Canada spot at 4 Nations Face-Off. As Scott wrote in his article about why 55 is deserving of his nod I also thought the words of Bolts coach Jon Cooper were noteworthy.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets fall to Lightning 4-1. (Paywall). Wieber was inside the arena last night and files this report.

Global News: Jets fall short in Tampa Bay 4-1 for second loss of season. Crazy to think it was game 17 last night and that was just their second loss of the season.

Jets video:

Sportsnet: Breaking down Connor and Winnipeg’s elite offensive numbers. Mike Kelly joins the Hockey Central panel to discuss two elite NHL scorers Nikita Kucherov and Kyle Connor, why they’ve been so effective, how consistent the Jets offence has been, and some potential vulnerabilities in Winnipeg’s penalty kill.

TSN: Jets lose just second game in first 17 contests. TSN Hockey analyst Martin Biron joins SC with Jay Onrait to share his thoughts on the Jets losing just their second game in their first 17 contests and how important it is for the Jets to get Connor Hellebuyck the proper rest.

Ray & Dregs Podcast: Conversation with Jets head coach Scott ArnielFormer NHLer turned analyst Ray Ferraro and TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger were joined at the 24:54 mark by Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel on the Ray & Dregs Podcast to discuss his transition to the head coaching job, Kyle Connor’s 200-foot game and bringing coaches from all departments together to share ideas and more.
