Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets were off on Wednesday not that you could tell based on how much talk there was about the NHL club of Winnipeg. Today they are in Florida where their road trip continues against the Lightning in Tampa. Morning skate gets underway at 10:30 AM. Be sure to check back for the pre-game report for any updates. Puck drop is at 6 PM CST.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Tampa Bay, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 8:40 PM CST.

Note III: The Moose got back on track on Wednesday morning in their first school day game of the season taking on the Admirals in Milwaukee. It was a tall order to take on the one of the top team’s in the Central but Manitoba got off to an excellent start which really set the tone. Jets prospect Elias Salomonsson had a big impact on the game (2G 1A) and the special teams were both excellent en route to a 5-4 shootout victory.

Note IV: Two more assists for Jets prospect Brayden Yager (2023 1st) in the OT loss for his Warriors on Wednesday night. He’s at 10G 14A for 24 points in 17 games which is 1.41 pts/g.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Experienced Fleury always ready when called on. (Paywall). Whenever the Saskatchewan product speaks you get a sense that he really feels like he wants to be a part of this club.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ success something to believe in. As we’ve been discussing this team isn’t winning in just one fashion. It isn’t all Connor Hellebuyck as we could sometimes say in past seasons. And while the two-time Vezina winner has played a big part of the success the entire team from top to bottom have been instrumental in setting a tone they’ve maintained for over a month

The Athletic Winnipeg: What do you make of the team’s record-setting start? (Paywall). It’s time for a survey as Murat wants to know your thoughts on the hockey team from Winnipeg who are off to the best start in NHL history.

Global News: Will this be the season Jets’ Morrissey gets recognized? My thought is if the Jets can maintain their start (not necessarily a .939 winning %) then folks around the league will continue to pay attention to the little team that could. If they do then they’ll recognize the impact that 44 has on the game on a nightly basis.

Global News: Winnipeg’s downtown arena still going strong at 20. As a member of the media I have to say the pressbox provides a fantastic vantage point which is a similar sentiment I’ve heard from visiting media. Hard to believe it’s been 20 years already.

Daily Faceoff: ‘I don’t think there’s a flaw right now’: Why the 15-1 Jets believe they’re for real. You really get the sense that the playoffs scarred this Jets club and nobody wants a repeat of what they went through last season. It is quite the motivator.

Jets video:

The Rod Pedersen Show: Jets off to the best start in NHL history. Sportsnet’s Sean Reynolds joined the show yesterday to talk about the hottest team in the NHL and to provide his thoughts on how this team has made history.

TSN: How are the Winnipeg Jets still not considered a top 10 Stanley Cup favourite? For what it’s worth all involved in this chat on TSN believe Jets are a contender. They are simply discussing the odds not reflecting same. They also discuss Mark Scheifele playing for Team Canada at 4 Nations.

TSN: Is Mark Scheifele playing his way onto Team CanadaWith nine goals and 12 assists through 16 games, Mark Scheifele has been lights out to start the season. TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button discusses if the Jets forward is playing his way onto Team Canada’s 4 Nations Face-off team with his sensational season so far.

The Cam & Strick Podcast: Reflections on his career with former Winnipeg Jets head coach Rick Bowness. The conversation with the former Jets head coach runs for over an hour but there is a good section that provides his insight into the Jets which is worth watching.

Jets audio:

Frankly Speaking: Conversation with Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. With the GM meetings in Toronto it was an opportunity for Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli to sit down with GM Kevin Cheveldayoff to talk about the historic 14-1-0 start for his hockey club to begin the 2024-25 season. (This interview was done before they beat the Rangers 6-3).
