Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets skated at CLC on Friday where things looked the same as they’ve been for awhile as they currently enjoy a 13-1 start to their season. Of course they know with the Stars in town that it is going to be an even stiffer test this afternoon in downtown Winnipeg.  Be sure to check back for the pre-game report for any updates. Puck drop is at 2 PM CDT.

Note II: This afternoon, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Dallas, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 4:40 PM CDT.

Note III: The Moose are in action as well this evening as they will also be taking on the Stars but they’ll be doing so in Texas as the two minor league affiliates do battle on the same day as the parent clubs. Manitoba got a boost with Jaret Anderson-Dolan being removed from IR and loaned to them on Friday. Puck drop is at 7 PM CST.

Note IV: Join us for two hours of Jets talk on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show starting at 9 AM CDT as we reflect on the week that was in Jetsland, review the game between the Jets/Avs, preview Jets/Stars, discuss all the latest news about the NHL and AHL clubs of Manitoba and maybe toss in some Jets prospect talk. Guests include TSN colour analyst Kevin Sawyer and senior Staff Writer for Dallas Stars Mike Heika.

Note V: Checking out how Jets prospects did last night. In the OHL – Colby Barlow (2023 1st) had a goal for Oshawa, Kieron Walton (2024 6th) also had a goal for Sudbury & Kevin He (2024 4th) had a goal and an assist. In the WHL – Brayden Yager (2023 1st) had a goal and an assist for Moose Jaw.

Note VI: Good luck to the Bombers as they take on the Roughriders tonight at Princess Auto Stadium (kick off at 5:30 PM CST)  in the Western Conference Final with a chance to go to the 111th Grey Cup in Vancouver.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ Mark Scheifele keeping the faith on NHL 4 Nations Face-Off roster spot. Pretty clear his coach has plenty of faith in his ability.

Winnipeg Free Press: Lowry a Team Canada dark horse. (Paywall). When Arniel was talking about Scheifele for the above tournament he mentioned that Adam Lowry was also be looking at for it.

Winnipeg Free Press: Stellar record, but Jets still a work-in-progress. (Paywall). Complacency is a killer so it’s good the team is still striving to improve.

Globe and Mail: The Winnipeg Jets are the NHL’s hottest team – and somehow still flying under the radar. (Paywall). As Rodney Dangerfield would say “they get no respect” and the truth is I suspect this team is fine being overlooked.

Daily Faceoff: Where did the Winnipeg Jets’ offense come from this season? That’s a question that many folks have been wondering.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Connor Hellebuyck steals ‘revenge game,’ Winnipeg continues historic start: 3 takeaways. (Paywall). Missed this from Murat on Friday as he reacted to the game on Thursday night.

Sportsnet: Aside from Hellebuyck’s shutout, Jets’ victory fails to meet standards. Not being satisfied with good could be the difference between a good team and an elite one.

Jets video:

TSN: Who starts for USAConnor Hellebuyck and Jake Oettinger might square off on Saturday when the Jets host the Stars. With both goalies being frontrunners to man the net for the Americans in the coming years, Jamie McLennan takes a closer look at who might be the number one for the USA in Post 2 Post.

TSN: ‘Hellebuyck looks like he wants to put his name back on Vezina this season’: Button on Winnipeg Jets win. What stood out in the Jets win over the Avalanche? How incredible has Connor Hellebuyck been to start the season? What’s changed since the Jets lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Avalanche?  TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button joins SC with Jay Onrait to share his thoughts on the Jets earning their 13th win through their first 14 games.
