Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets remarkable start to the season is entering historic territory as they became just the sixth team in NHL history to pick up their 12th win in their 13th game of the season. They achieved that mark by kicking off the first of three straight against the Central with a 3-0 win over the Utah Hockey Club last night. Here are just a few of the notable stats that we were left contemplating after the win (Goal differential, 1st in NHL in a number of categories, getting to 12 wins in 13 vs best previous of 19). They are off today.

Note II: Scott Arniel did provide a bit of an update on injured players Ville Heinola and Jaret Anderson-Dolan who remain a ways away.

Note III: The Moose have a final day of practice in Winnipeg before they take off for Texas tomorrow. They’ll hit the ice at 10:30 AM CST for practice at hockey for all centre so stay tuned for the Practice Report.

Note IV: While he was held off the regulation/OT scoresheet last night in the OHL, Jets 2023 1st rounder Colby Barlow got the shootout GWG to propel Oshawa to a win.

Winnipeg Free Press: Hellebuyck blanks Utah, Niederreiter puts game out of reach in 900th NHL contest. (Paywall). Lost in the mostly dominant game was the quiet 21-save shutout for the Jets top netminder who picked up the 39th shutout of his career.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets enjoying success as Connor’s game matures. (Paywall). As we discussed on last night’s IC Post-Game Show we’ve been watching him closely since his time at Michigan and his evolution has been remarkable to witness.

Global News: Niederreiter scores twice in milestone game as Winnipeg Jets win again. Another recap of the action.

Sportsnet: Nino Niederreiter propels Jets to win over Utah in 900th game. That line has to be able to produce and they showed that they’ve been getting that done this season as well as holding off the other team’s best.

Salt Lake Tribune: Utah goalie Karel Vejmelka does his best, but the Hockey Club can’t stop the NHL’s hottest team. Read about the game from the perspective of a writer that covers the Jets opponent.

Jets video:

TSN: How will Jets’ early season success translate to postseasonWith 12 wins in 13 games, everything seems to be clicking for the Jets right now, including the power play. TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button shares why Winnipeg’s PP has been so dominant, and how the early season success could translate to the postseason.

TSN: ‘It’s a pretty cool feeling’: Niederreiter on scoring in his 900th career gameJets forward Nino Niederreiter joins Sara Orlesky to describe how the club was able to get the win against Utah, and what it means to him to score in his 900th career game.

Prospect news:

Denver Pioneers: Garrett Brown took positives in recovery. The fourth rounder (2022) is somewhat forgotten because of the injury which cost him a lot of time last season and because he’s not a big offensive producer from the backend. But always good to get to know those in the system.
