Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets hit the ice for practice on Monday which featured two faces we hadn’t seen in awhile as Ville Heinola and Jaret Anderson-Dolan were skating in yellow, non-contact uniforms. Nikolaj Ehlers and Logan Stanley didn’t skate but assistant coach Marty Johnston indicated they were taking maintenance days. About the most interesting thing were the comments from two-time Vezina winner Connor Hellebuyck. Provided they are good no changes are expected tonight when the Jets take on the NHL’s newest team. Morning skate gets underway at 10:30 AM. Be sure to check back for the pre-game report for any updates. Puck drop is at 7 PM CST.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Utah, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game starting around 9:40 PM CST.

Note III: The Moose have another day of practice as they look to get back on track when they head out of town later this week heading to Texas for a pair of games against the Stars. They’ll hit the ice at 10:30 AM CST for practice at hockey for all centre.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Arniel’s faith in Logan Stanley paying off for Jets. One positive of the winning ways early in the season is it has given the coaching staff a long leash to experiment with combinations or players without the need to make changes simply to deal with a loss.

Winnipeg Sun: ‘Tried my best to help’: Jets’ Hellebuyck ready to give up on interference fight. Hard to argue with the Jets netminder especially when I overlayed his words with the video of Conor Geekie pitchforking his pad (and him) into the net.

Winnipeg Free Press: ‘That was clearly goalie interference’: Hellebuyck slams ruling on coach’s challenge. (Paywall). He made a convincing argument.

Winnipeg Free Press: NHL’s top team leads league in goals on way to 11-1 record. (Paywall). The Jets leading the league in goals for is not something that many would have expected, nor the balance of scoring across the team.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Why Connor Hellebuyck is still frustrated with NHL’s goaltender interference rules. (Paywall). It was a very candid and reasonable two-time Vezina winner.

Global News: Ehlers, Pionk among Jets playing for next contracts. I’ve been making the point since before the season began that the Jets may be significant beneficiaries (at least during the season) of all these UFAs who are playing for their next contract.
