Note: The Jets didn’t miss a beat last night as they demolished the Blue Jackets in Columbus by a final score of 6-2 to sweep their short road trip. With the win they improve to an incredible 10-1-0 on the season and with all the areas of success they’ve achieved this season, it’s hard to narrow it down to just one thing that’s most impressive. But now they turn the page and focus on four straight at home starting with the Lightning. The Jets are scheduled to practice today at 12:30 PM at hockey for all centre.
Note II: The Moose fought back last night after going down by two goals with tally’s by Nikita Chibrikov (see here) and a shorthanded marker by AJF (see here) but it was not enough as the special teams for the Admirals proved special (3/4) on their way to a 4-2 victory. Milwaukee hasn’t lost since opening night (October 11th) so they will remain formidable in tonight’s re-match. Puck drop is at 6 PM CDT.
Note III: Jets winger Kyle Connor becomes just the third Winnipeg player to be named an NHL Star of the Month as he picked up 2nd Star honours for all he did in October.
Note IV: Join us for two hours of Jets talk on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show starting at 9 AM CDT as we reflect on the week that was in Jetsland, review the game between the Jets/Blue Jackets, preview Jets/Lightning, discuss all the latest news about the NHL and AHL clubs of Manitoba and maybe toss in some Jets prospect talk. Guests include play-by-play voice of Winnipeg Dan Robertson and play-by-play voice of Manitoba Daniel Fink.
Note V: Lots of prospects were in action on Friday night. Starting in the OHL Jacob Julien (2023 5th) had a goal (GWG) and an assist while Colby Barow also ripped home a goal. Kevin He (2024 4th) was held off scoresheet and Kieron Walton (2024 6th) had an assist. In the WHL you had Brayden Yager (2023 1st) taking on Markus Loponen (2024 5th) but both held pointless. Connor Levis (2023 7th) got his seventh goal of the season.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ days of playing to opponent’s level seem gone. One of the observations we’ve made on the IC Post-Game Show throughout this season is the common complaint from years prior was Winnipeg not maintaining a consistent game. Meaning they’d get up for big opponents but have let downs against lesser ones. That hasn’t been an issue through 11 games.
Winnipeg Sun: Nikolaj Ehlers notches hat trick as Jets hammer Blue Jackets 6-2. I was almost incredulous when I was looking up the hat trick stats and saw Ehlers hadn’t had one since 2018. Shocking. Scott recaps the action as he saw it.
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets overwhelm Blue Jackets. (Paywall). Mike was inside Nationwide Arena for last night’s contest and he filed this report.
The Athletic Columbus: Blue Jackets crumble under Winnipeg Jets’ withering pressure in loss. (Paywall). Read about the game from the perspective of a beat writer that covers the Jets opponent.
Sportsnet: Five thoughts on the Winnipeg Jets through 10 games. This was added to the afternoon links but in case you missed it Jacob looked back at the previous ten games and gives you his five and a bonus sixth thought covering: 1) Special-teams sessions are paying off. 2) Defence is looking good. 3) There’s a top-six, bottom-six drop-off. 4) The blue-line is scoring. 5) Michigan magicians are at it again. 6) Do they need a top-six centre or a top-four defenseman?
Jets video:
TSN: Ehlers sets tone in dominant Jets performance over Blue Jackets. Nikolaj Ehlers flashed his creativity all night long for the Winnipeg Jets, scoring a hat trick and setting up another goal, while Eric Comrie looked solid in the net in place of Connor Hellebuyck. TSN’s Dan Robertson and Kevin Sawyer break down the game, and more.
TSN: Is Jets winger Kyle Connor a superstar? Note this was recorded before the game. Kyle Connor has been unreal out of the gate, recording nine goals and eight assists in 17 games. Is he the most underrated player in hockey? Is it realistic for Connor to challenge for the Rocket Richard Trophy? TSN Hockey analyst Bruce Boudreau joins Domino’s That’s Hockey to give his thoughts.
