Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: Jets winger Cole Perfetti is back on the ice in Winnipeg following the NHL Media Tour as he awaits resolution of his contract negotiations. Elliotte Friedman offered up his thoughts on 32 Thoughts which was released on Friday.

Note II: The Young Stars tournament in BC got underway for the Jets last night as they took on the Flames prospects. Brad Lambert, who spoke about putting on weight this summer, sure didn’t look like his speed was diminished on the ice. After Calgary tied the game it was Winnipeg who won it in overtime with Colby Barlow (2023 1st rounder) setting up Dmitry Kuzmin (2021 3rd rounder) for the OT GWG.

Note III: The IC Summer Series continued with our chat with Jets goalie prospect Thomas Milic who provided us with plenty of insight into his first year as a pro, summer training, getting ready for next year and more. You can watch it here.

Note IV: While he hasn’t played many games the last few seasons due to injury his presence was always felt but after six seasons with Manitoba, now former captain Jimmy Oligny is heading to Europe to continue his career.

Note V: Jets players are in town, informally practicing & game action, via the Young-Stars tournament has begun, all of which equals a rapidly approaching NHL season! Which is why you should tune in for two hours of hockey talk on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show which gets underway at 9 AM CT. Join us here.

Jets news:

Jets official site: Three things – Kuzmin scores OT winner. Jamie is in BC and wrote about the game. He looked at 1) Good start. 2) Power Play. 3) OT winner.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets win clash of prospects with OT win over Flames. (Paywall). Rather than breakdown a prospects game Mike instead wrote about some players who he felt deserved mention including: 1) Dmitry Kuzmin, 2) Colby Barlow, Brad Lambert & Brayden Yager. 3) Thomas Milic. 4) Daniel Torgersson.

The Carillon: Luke Mistelbacher continuing NHL journey with Winnipeg Jets. While it is obviously easier to have standing with an organization when you are a drafted prospect it is still possible to carve out a niche through hard work at these types of camps.
