Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: Yesterday was the last day for teams to buyout players and for just the third time in franchise history the Jets have optioned to buyout a player with the team placing Nate Schmidt on unconditional waivers for purposes of a buyout.

Note II: The Jets had until 4 PM CDT on Sunday to extend qualifying offers to their seven RFAs to prevent them from becoming UFAs and unsurprisingly they extended offers to five of seven players.

Note III: Today is the start of NHL Free Agency which gets underway at 11 AM CDT. While the Jets are not traditionally a hot spot for free agents they will definitely be signing players today so be sure to keep it locked here for any and all updates. We will also have the media availability with Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff on our YouTube channel.

Note IV: We expect to get the Development Camp roster and schedule today or tomorrow. For now the thought is that it will run from Wednesday, July 3rd to Sunday, July 7th but once the Jets confirm we will post the roster and schedule.

Note V: Happy Canada Day folks.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets’ Schmidt placed on unconditional waivers. (Paywall). It’s a move that makes sense given his role when you take his salary cap hit into account.
