Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The wait continues as still no word from Jets head coach Scott Arniel who was introduced as bench boss over two weeks ago but who still hasn’t made an announcement as to who will be the associate and assistant coaches to be added to his bench. For those hoping the Jets were gonna hire Todd Nelson that’s gonna have to wait as his Bears won game 7 (in OT) of the Eastern Conference Finals last night in Hershey.

Note II: While the NHL club of Winnipeg is still waiting to make their announcement, the AHL club of Manitoba is not as the Moose announced they had hired Morgan Klimchuk as an assistant coach for the 2024-25 season after Nolan Baumgartner left for a job in the NHL with the Senators.

Jets news:

The Athletic: LeBrun rumblings: Trade talk heats up on Laine, Necas, Ehlers and more. (Paywall). The Ehlers news is simply a regurgitation of what Dreger has been saying but he did say that the Jets are one of the five to seven teams that have contacted the Hurricanes on Martin Necas.

Winnipeg Sun: What levers can the Winnipeg Jets pull given their cap situation? Scott puts on his GM cap and gives you a few thought exercises on how things could look for the Jets next season.

Global News: Are we in a calm before a storm of Winnipeg Jets’ off-season moves? Interesting to read this line “all three (DeMelo, Dillon & Monahan) have been tabled contract extensions” from Paul’s piece.

Winnipeg official site: Jets continue preparations for NHL Draft. Jamie caught up with Jets director of amateur scouting Mark Hillier as they get set for the draft at the end of the month.

Daily Faceoff: Chat with Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel covering Rick Bowness, Lowry as captain, future of Ehlers and more. Winnipeg turns to Scott Arniel to get them over the hump. Frank is joined by newly named Jets head coach Scott Arniel to discuss his relationship with Rick Bowness (5:00), understanding where the team fell short last season, what he’s picked up since his last head coaching job, the importance of Adam Lowry, and the future of Nikolaj Ehlers.

Jets audio:
