Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: If you turned off game 3 between the Jets and Avs after 40 minutes you were likely feeling pretty, pretty, pretty confident that the visitors would be on their way to victory. But then they gave up five straight in the final frame to let a 2-1 series lead slip out of their hands and into the hands of the Avalanche. Special teams was the story of the game with the home team scoring two officially and a third one with Pionk steps out of the penalty box for a total of five 3rd period goals to cruise to a 6-2 victory.

Note II: The Moose were eliminated from post-season contention on Thursday night as the Stars swept their best of three play-in series with a 2-0 win in game 2. The team will have exit interviews at some point soon and we will have them covered on our YouTube channel so be sure you’re subscribing.

Note III: Be sure to join us this morning for the Illegal Curve Hockey Show for two hours of Jets talk starting at 9 AM as we recap game 3, preview game 4, do a quick post-mortem on the Moose and more. We will be joined by Jim Toth of CJOB 680 and Meghan Angley of DNVR.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Penalty-fest shot down Jets’ chances in Game 3. When your PK isn’t very good and you’re playing against a team with a top 5 PP it’s probably a good idea to not take penalties.

Denver Gazette: Avalanche continue solving Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck in Game 3 victory. Read about the game from the perspective of a writer that covers the Jets opponent.

Sportsnet: Jets must find a way to slow Avalanche with series slipping from their hands. I think they found the formula in the middle frame where they they had a high-danger edge over the Avs by an 8 to 1 margin.

Global News: Third period meltdown dooms Jets in 6-2 game 3 loss in Colorado. Hard to believe the 2nd period Jets were the same team as the 3rd period Jets.

Jets video:

Connor Hellebuyck currently ranks dead last in the playoffs with a 5.04 GAA as the Jets travel to Colorado for Game 3 against the Avalanche, That’s Hockey discusses how Hellebuyck can stop the bleeding and how important his improved play is if Winnipeg wants to continue containing Nathan MacKinnon.
