Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: Most of the Jets were on the ice for yesterday’s practice with the exception of four players although the only one that was notable as he’ll miss tonight’s game and the next week or so is Nino Niederreiter after suffering a “pretty good gash” to his leg. Morning skate for the Jets gets underway at 10:30 AM CDT. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 7 PM CDT.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Calgary, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game.

Note III: The Moose are leaving BC without any standings bank points as they lost yet again on Wednesday night to the Canucks in Abbotsford for the second straight day. Unlike the night before on Wednesday it was special teams that really handcuffed the visitors with Manitoba going 0/5 on the PP (including giving up a shorthanded goal) and the home team going 1/2 on the power play. They will return home for the final regular season homestand of the season which gets underway against the Wolves on Saturday.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: This draw is for dad: Jets’ Kyle Connor takes on cause dear to his heart. A tough story about what Kyle Connor’s family has dealt with and I’m sure the faceoff will be very meaningful. It’s another example of the impact players can have on the local community.

Winnipeg Sun: Saved by the sock: Cut to Jets’ Nino Niederreiter could have been worse It looked bad when you saw him fall in the tunnel but it really sounds like the protective equipment had an impact on preventing it from being much worse.

Winnipeg Free Press: Gash to leg sidelines Jets’ Niederreiter. (Paywall). While losing a player for any length of time isn’t ideal, especially one who is as valuable as number 62, the good news is the expectation is it won’t be for very long.

Global News: With a few games left, Jets hope to move past recent issues. As Mason Appleton told us yesterday they need to string some wins together as they try to build momentum towards the playoffs.

Winnipeg Sun: Are the Winnipeg Jets back on track after win over Kings? On the latest episode of Jets Setting, Postmedia’s Rob Wong chats with Winnipeg Sun Jets writer Scott Billeck and Winnipeg Sun Sports Editor Ted Wyman about the Jets win over the Kings on Monday night and whether they rediscovered their game. They also discuss what the Jets should be trying to accomplish in the final seven games of the regular season.

TSN: Jets & Kings pay homage to NHL linesman Ryan Galloway who retired on Monday. It was an emotional night in Winnipeg as longtime linesman Ryan Galloway — who’s been officiating NHL games since 2002 — called his final NHL game. The hometown linesman was highly-respected in the NHL community, and every player from the Jets and Kings took time to shake his hand.
