Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets had a quick skate on Friday as they prepared for today’s game against the Senators. It was informative as we learned that Gabriel Vilardi would return to the lineup today. Morning skate for the Jets gets underway at 9:30 AM CDT. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 6 PM CDT.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Ottawa, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game.

Note III:  The Moose concluded their six-game homestand yesterday when they kept coming back in the game at Canada Life to defeat the Marlies 4-3. The scoreboard watching was interesting for Manitoba. They were scheduled to practice today but have cancelled after taking three of four points in this two game set with Toronto. Instead they will practice tomorrow before heading out on the road on Monday to Abbotsford for a quick, two-game set with the Canucks.

Note IV: Be sure to join us this morning for the Illegal Curve Hockey Show for two hours of Jets talk starting at 9 AM. We will be joined by Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press to talk about the Jets and Alex Adams of The Hockey News to chat about the Senators.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Vilardi returns with new catchphrase after latest ailment. He is certainly unique as he brings a brand of honesty mixed with a certain level of self-deprecation that you don’t see from most pro athletes.

Winnipeg Sun: How would Jets look if everyone had Stanley’s intensity? He is bringing a physical element every single game he has played in of late.

Winnipeg Free Press: Vilardi ready to make return. (Paywall). The power play is thankful for the return of number 13.

Winnipeg Free Press: Trade deadline debate rages on. (Paywall). Until a team wins the Cup it is difficult to really judge the moves made less than three weeks ago.

Jets video:

TSN: Is playing Connor Hellebuyck too much going to cost the Winnipeg Jets? The Winnipeg Jets’ strength is clear; defence and goaltending. With star goaltender — and Vezina favourite — Connor Hellebuyck scuffling lately, is there a fatigue factor coming into play? TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button and former NHL head coach Bruce Boudreau join 7-Eleven That’s Hockey host Gino Reda to discuss.

Local hockey news:

Winnipeg Free Press: Local linesman Galloway calling it a career after more than two decades in NHL. (Paywall). Nice that there is an NHL team in his hometown to conclude his career.
