Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets ran into a wall on Saturday night after playing a complete game the night before this team from top to bottom just didn’t have it and the result was a 5-0 loss to the Canucks on Hockey Night in Canada. They return home to play three games and will get a boost with newest additions Tyler Toffoli and Colin Miller who they will see at the rink on Monday as they get set to face the Capitals later that night. They are off today.

Note II: The Moose got loose last night in Iowa where a critical two points were up for grabs between two clubs fighting for the 5th and final playoff spot in the Central. It was a pretty even contest through 40 minutes before Manitoba started to heat up after giving up a goal early in the final frame but scoring four straight to take it 4-1 which was their fifth straight victory. Be sure to check out the game recap here. The re-match goes this afternoon with puck drop at 3 PM CDT.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Canucks throttle uninspired Jets. Short but sweet headline and pretty accurate as it was clear right from puck drop which was the hungrier of these two teams. Scott expands on things in his game recap.

The Province: The result doesn’t matter when the goalie is injured. A view from a writer that covers the Jets opponent.

The Athletic Winnipeg: How the Winnipeg Jets became Stanley Cup contenders again. (Paywall). Really good read from Murat on the rise of  the Jets back to challenger for the cup status.

Jets video:

Sportsnet: Bowness calls out Jets after blowout loss: ‘Not one player played well’. Jets head coach Rick Bowness did not mince words following the team’s 5-0 blowout loss to the Vancouver Canucks, saying it was the worst game the group has played in his two years behind the bench and “not one player played well.”

We were joined by Murat Ates of The Athletic Winnipeg and former NHLer Jordan Schmaltz.
