Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets practiced yesterday in Seattle but it turned out to be an optional as a number of players were missing including goalie Connor Hellebuyck who is a little under the weather as per head coach Rick Bowness. We also learned that Gabriel Vilardi has been ruled out for both games this weekend. We shall have to wait and see if there is a recall. Morning skate for the Jets gets underway at 1:30 PM CST. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 9 PM CST.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Seattle, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game.

Note III: The Moose travelled on Thursday after they kicked off their six-game road trip with a big 5-4 win over the division leading Admirals in Milwaukee on Wednesday night. Today they are in Iowa where they are scheduled to practice in advance of a pair of critical games against their divisional rivals the Wild.

Note IV: With the NHL Trade Deadline ending today at 2 PM CST be sure to keep it locked here and our YouTube channel for any Jets related news.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Opponents bulk up as Jets watch, wait. Worth remembering that the teams that make the biggest moves or the most moves don’t always go on to win a Cup.

Winnipeg Free Press: Shot at Stanley Cup means Jets need to go all-in at trade deadline. (Paywall). Worth noting there are 15 other teams who will qualify for the playoffs, and while 80-90% of them will have bulked up for playoffs, it will be for naught. So it’s a risk/reward calculation that every GM has to make. Ken makes the case for the Jets going all-in.

Winnipeg Free Press: Nino makes good things happen. (Paywall). He has fit very well since he was acquired last season and you can see why on a daily basis.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Fifteen Winnipeg Jets trade targets to keep up with West contenders. (Paywall). By the time you’re reading this link there is a very good chance the list has shrunk.

Sportsnet: Why it wouldn’t be surprising if Jets made another move despite lack of trade buzz. NHL Network analyst Mike Kelly joins The Jeff Marek Show to discuss the lack of trade buzz from the Winnipeg Jets despite being in contention for the Presidents Trophy and states why he wouldn’t be surprised if Cheveldayoff made another move.
