Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: It was an off day on Monday for the Jets although there was some news as defenceman Josh Morrissey was named NHL Third Star of the Week. Morning skate for the Jets gets underway at 10:30 AM CST. Their Kraken opponent were busy in Calgary last night where they picked up a win over the Flames although the game didn’t end till close to 11:30 PM and they probably didn’t get to the city until after 2 AM CST which should make for a tired group. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 7 PM CST.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Seattle, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game.

Note III: The Moose were also off on Monday after sweeping the Stars out of Winnipeg over the weekend. The AHL club of Manitoba will now leave the province as they head out on the road for six straight games against divisional opponents as they look to solidify their playoff positioning. It all gets started tomorrow in Milwaukee against an Admirals team that, after being unbeaten for basically two months, have now lost three straight games.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Analyze this: Jets’ Ehlers deserves more. Scott makes the case for why Nikolaj Ehlers should be paired with Mark Scheifele on the top line.

Winnipeg Sun: Forecast for Jets: expect another move by Friday. The noise around the Jets is pretty minimal which is right up the alley of Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. Will he stick to a small move or will he swing for the fences?

Winnipeg Free Press: Perfetti’s reality check. (Paywall). Not a surprise that the 10th overall pick from the 2020 draft had that type of mature response.

The Athletic Winnipeg: How Mark Scheifele, Nikolaj Ehlers and Rick Bowness impact Winnipeg Jets’ trade deadline outlook. (Paywall). Really good and in-depth read from Murat on the situation that has Jets fans pulling out their hair (unless they are bald and are simply exasperated by the situation without the benefit of hair pulling).

Sportsnet: 32 Thoughts. As per of his preamble he talks about the Winnipeg season ticket situation and in thought 31 he does indicate (unlike on the podcast below) that if the situation with Vilardi necessitates it, they could try to add someone like an Anthony Mantha-type.

Sportsnet: 32 Thoughts Podcast. This is a transcribed chat between Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman from the podcast which looked at all 32 teams ahead of the Trade Deadline including the Jets with talk about Vilardi’s injury, the type of move Winnipeg may be looking at and the defined roles on the team.

Global News: Another interesting week coming up for Jets as trade deadline looms. As you can read above, the insiders don’t have the Jets making major moves (although that could change depending on injury status) but it will pay to be watching closely (maybe coming to this site 10-20 times per day).

Winnipeg Sun: Those who ‘don’t get’ Morrissey as elite, clearly haven’t watched. Cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard folks talk about the Jets and you quickly realize they have absolutely no basis for what they are saying. They speak in generalities without much substance and pass it off as depth.

Lake of the Woods Sports Headquarters: Going ice fishing with Connor Hellebuyck, Kyle Connor and Dylan Samberg. Head out onto the ice on Lake Winnipeg with this trio of Jets.

WST: Jets Week in Review. Connor Hrabchak hosts Winnipeg Jets Weekly – a review of the past week in Winnipeg Jets news and a look ahead of what’s to come. Connor discusses the Winnipeg Jets four games this week against the St. Louis Blues, Dallas Stars, Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres.
